Arizona Senate fast-tracks contempt vote in election wrangle

PHOENIX (AP) - Republicans who control the Arizona Senate voted Thursday to fast-track a resolution finding Maricopa County in contempt for failing to turn over elections equipment and ballots cast in the November election as a subpoena demanded.

The rules change brought furious opposition from minority Democrats, who called the effort further evidence that GOP senators have bought into unfounded conspiracy theories that President Joe Biden won Arizona because of problems with vote counting.

“The more we play along with this silly game the more we are lying to the people of Arizona about it,” Sen. Martin Quezada, a Glendale Democrat, said. “We need to cut this out, and we need to cut it out now.”

The 16-13 party-line vote to waive requirements for committee hearings and full debate sets up a formal vote on the resolution as soon as Monday. If it passes, county supervisors could be arrested for failing to comply with the subpoenas.

Republicans said they were not challenging the election results, noting that Biden is now president. Instead, they said they want to do their own audit of the county's voting machines and review ballots to restore confidence in the county's elections.

“What we are trying is to prove to the voters of Maricopa County that they can trust and count on their election process,” GOP Sen. Rick Gray said during the vote. “I think that is reasonable. I think that is necessary.”

Reality is not unfounded conspiracy theories.

Show us they are unfounded by releasing the subpoena’d items.

If they could prove the repubs wrong and shove it in their faces for years, you know thats exactly what thry would,do. Their media comrades would love to air this forever.

Fwct is its the actual truth.

Yes,fast-tracked for no valid reason by the GOP –as opposed to the very deliberate & Constitutional second “impeachment” conducted in the House…

(Gotta love those AP/MSN News authors ;?)

Instead of giving the Republicans full access to all voting records, the Dims fight it with everything they have.

After the first accusation of impropriety by the Republicans, you would think it would be the Dims who would demand an audit and full investigation and then snicker and rub it in the faces of the Republicans that the wild claims of irregularities were nonsense.

So why would the Dims be so adamantly opposed to opening up the records?

What do they have to hide? Just let the records be made public. No harm done. It’s quite simple.

Fast track is a fluid term. Keep in mind John Durham is fast tracking.

Stuff might happen in 2021.

I was watching a show about border patrol agents at the airport. They asked this guy some questions. He didn’t answer and gave them an attitude. So, he got detained and got his bags searched because he was acting guilty. If a cop pulls behind you and you turn fast, he may just decide to pull you over because you look like you want to hide. In this case, the legislature is sovereign. If they want to see the machines and the ballots, they get to see them. When the county refuses to produce them, after agreeing to do it, they look very guilty. When the Dems get indignant that the legislature wants to test the integrity of the voting machines and the ballots, they are acting guilty. When people act guilty, courts and juries can make inferences of cheating, fraud, and even criminal activity. It happens all the time.

Considering that the Maricopa Board of Supervisors is 4-1 Republican, you would think that the Dems would be in favor of auditing a Republican controlled jurisdiction to look for fraud. Why would a Republican board of supervisors cheat Republican candidate? No one would believe that, right?

GOP county Supervisor Bill Gates issued a statement after the resolution was introduced saying “I will never be in favor” of turning over ballots without a court order.

Who knew Bill Gates was in the middle of this mess? I thought he lived in Washington state. How strange!

Glendale Az is flooded with Mexicans and illegals. I’m not surprised this comes from that side of town. As far as I’m concerned Glendale is the wrong side of the tracks.

Don’t know why the Dems are so upset. If there was no fraud then nothing will be found and the Dems will be triumphant. They should welcome this opportunity.
