Palm Beach Town Attorney Sides With Trump in Mar-a-Lago Residency Controversy
The Epoch Times ^ | February 4, 2021 | Zachary Stieber

The attorney for Palm Beach said in a memo this week that former President Donald Trump can live full time at his Mar-a-Lago resort.

John Randolph said in the document that Trump can be considered a bona fide employee of the resort. Employees are defined in the town’s code as including business owners and partners.

“If he is a bona fide employee of the club, absent a specific restriction prohibiting former President Trump from residing at the club, it appears the Zoning Code permits him to reside at the club,” Randolph wrote.

The memo was obtained by news outlets and published by NPR.

Trump turned Mar-a-Lago into a private club in 1993. During a Town Council meeting that year, Trump’s attorney at the time said that Trump would not “continue to live” on the property, “except that he will be a member of the club and would be entitled to use the guest rooms.”

Some have suggested the statement means Trump may only use the club as a member. Members are barred from residing at Mar-a-Lago for more than three non-consecutive seven-day periods per year.

It’s also likely a temporary arrangement anyway. He’ll probably eventually find something more to his taste and affordability.

As someone who was a teen in the ‘80s, it’s still a little disorienting to think of Donald Trump as a Floridian. His larger-than-life persona was practically coterminous with Manhattan. Don’t get me wrong. I totally understand why he and his family have no desire to return to De Blasio’s leftist s—thole. And FL is a conservative-friendly state, and Ron Desantis is the epitome of a good GOP governor. Still, I wonder if it seems as weird for Trump himself to not be a New Yorker as it seems for me that he’s no longer a New Yorker.

Trump knows contracts in and out...You don't have to be a lawyer to understand the lingo.

I took a course in contract law in 1962...IBM had a seminar taught by a couple attorneys.

Best course I ever took.

A blip from a Town meeting is pretty worthless without the “final” resolutions.

He’ll stay there. Something about the idea that when it was given to the government, the intention was that it become the Winter Whitehouse. President Trump fulfills its destiny.

The streets were lined with Trump loyalists as he arrived at Mar A Largo.

President Trump didn’t leave New York.

New York left him.

No American is confined to 1 state last I looked. I’ve been a floridian, NYer, Fl, Fl, NY, FL and now I’m a North Carolinian! Freedom of Choice (for now:-)!

He saw the signs, I think, that New was going to become an irredeemable city and became pro-active to get out.

He’ll probably lose most of his fortune because property values will drop like a stone, but he foresaw it easily ten years ago.

I became interested in learning more about Marjorie Merriweather Post after seeing “Food That Built America” on the History channel. I bought the used book “American Empress” and am enjoying it. It tells about her first trip to Palm Beach and how the mosquitoes were so bad they nearly carried people away. It probably was very uncomfortable as there was nothing there at the time but swamp like terrain and undergrowth but I wondered on reading that WHY she decided she wanted to build a home there. Never did explain that but what a place. I know President Trump and his family are going to be OK - after a lot of battles the dems will never give up - but it makes me sick to think of OUR PRESIDENT being treated like a pariah. He did absolutely nothing to deserve that kind of treatment. The ones who DO deserve it, never get their comeuppance!

The government sold Mar a largo because they were too incompetent to deal with it.

Three or four generations ago people in DC got their jobs based on merit. Now it’s ‘who you know’, who you’re related too and what pity party grievance group you’re a member of...

I think you meant “New York”.....I see that de Blobbio has ordered city personnel (NYPD?) to stop providing security at Trump Tower. Haven’t seen any feedback from tenants/residents but I presume there has been plenty. The worthless dems are going to tie themselves into knots trying to get their last pound of flesh from him...

NOW it’s how long you have to hang around before YOUR party takes back control and you get another government job!! Sure have a lot of retreads in this new one - they’re not done yet.
