As someone who was a teen in the ‘80s, it’s still a little disorienting to think of Donald Trump as a Floridian. His larger-than-life persona was practically coterminous with Manhattan. Don’t get me wrong. I totally understand why he and his family have no desire to return to De Blasio’s leftist s—thole. And FL is a conservative-friendly state, and Ron Desantis is the epitome of a good GOP governor. Still, I wonder if it seems as weird for Trump himself to not be a New Yorker as it seems for me that he’s no longer a New Yorker.
President Trump didn’t leave New York.
New York left him.
No American is confined to 1 state last I looked. I’ve been a floridian, NYer, Fl, Fl, NY, FL and now I’m a North Carolinian! Freedom of Choice (for now:-)!
He saw the signs, I think, that New was going to become an irredeemable city and became pro-active to get out.
He’ll probably lose most of his fortune because property values will drop like a stone, but he foresaw it easily ten years ago.
There should be a P.G. Wodehouse Award on FR, and my FRiend you just won 2021.
New York as we know it is dead (it’ll come back to life as Chinatown)
