The courtship between Apple and Hyundai's Kia to build an Apple car seems to be progressing nicely. According to a report by CNBC, the two companies are close to finalizing a deal that would have Kia building an electric, autonomous Apple vehicle at a Kia assembly plant in West Point, Georgia.
According to CNBC's sources, the deal hinges on Apple being in control of both the software and hardware of the vehicle. In other words, it would not be a Kia or Hyundai with Apple technology but would instead be an Apple vehicle that’s built by the Korean automaker in the United States under Apple’s direction

“Sorry, Dave, I cannot take you home. From what I read about you on FreeRepublic, I have to take you to Bedlam instead.”
Autonomous autos otta be automatics.
Gets great economy on the road. You can laugh at gas stations for hundreds of miles!
You screw up one launch....... ha ha.
What Kia brings to the party is an assembly line that makes car-size objects. Once Apple has this how far behind do you think flying cars and delivery drones are?
And it sets up a clash with Elon on two fronts. One is cars, but the second is internet. The natural competitor to Starlink is a car-sized box of electronics slung under an aerostat.
Sure, way out in the boonies the satellites are good. But where population density exceeds a certain value an earth-based system is less expensive.
Recharging an electric vehicle in 5 minutes is impractical to the laws of physics. I remember reading a column called “Ask Hank, He Knows” in the old magazine, “Elementary Electronics,” January/February 1980 issue. Someone wrote in where he claims someone made an electric vehicle where it can go 300 miles, has a 40 hp motor and you can recharge it in 5 (or 15?) minutes or so. Hank wrote where if that was the case, your house would have huge, low gauge wiring and the amps to do that will be so huge that it would cook the battery (not good) and even “make it glow.”
Microsoft is coming out with a car, too.
If anything goes wrong you just close all the windows and open them back up again.
Hmmm... What could possibly go wrong? Snicker...
Apple has been berry, berry good to me as a shareowner, and I’ve been a Mac users since the SE, but I agree with you. Their products are hardly perfect. I had a recent generation Macbook Pro, and I hated it so much that I downgraded to a 2015 model. Hated the keyboard, hated the ginormous trackpad, hated that stupid touchbar, hated having no ports other than USB-C. Ugh.
Nissan Leaf battery pack weighs 700 lb and when new holds as much energy as THREE gallons of gas (weight 21 lb) and takes 11 hours to recharge at 220 volts. So you have the equivalent of a car that holds three gallons of gas and takes 11 hours to fill. Further it costs $8500 to replace the batteries when they deteriorate to the point of uselessness. NO THANKS. You’re welcome to waste your money on something like that I’ll stick with fossil fuel
Their Genesis luxury/sport brand are supposed to be quite the car. Sharp looking too.
I think you just made all that stuff up.
the new nissan leaf has a range of 226 miles
and can charge up to 80% in 45 minutes
I can buy a nissan leaf battery pack at picknpull.com
600-5 Battery Hybrid/Electrical Car $153.99 $29.99
for about 200$ including tax and core deposit.
My friend just bought a hybrid rav4 that is getting 38+ mpg
that said I do not have an electric car and will be keeping my red barchetta for despite any motor laws

Try googling the cost of 2019 Nissan Leaf battery replacement and charging time. I think you made up your ‘facts’. Your battery cost is obvious bullsh!t. Either that or you don’t have a clue as to what type of battery to look up or you’re being disingenuous. I’m sure Nissan Leaf owners would like to know where to get an $8300 discount on replacement batteries. A lead acid starting battery for my Chevrolet is $140. if you have 440 volt service at your house you can cut the charging time way down, but almost no private homes have 440 volt service. I don’t have 440 v do you?
“Kia and Hyndai have had motor issues.”
We have owned 5 Hyundai vehicles and have one now with over 115,000 miles on it. Never a single “engine problem”.
Not one.

I am not trying to argue, but I took the charging time from the nissan website, yes it is at 440 and no i don’t have 440, but there are all kinds of charging stations near my house that do, and my former employer did as well.
My battery cost is not bs, I gave you the site picknpull.com and copied it directly from their price list.
granted this is a used battery, and you might have to swap some cells with yours to get a working pack but i dont have a problem doing stuff like that.
I just went to ebay and found one for a 2019. $499 or best offer with free shipping.
Every time I see one of these at picknpull I consider buying it to make an electric motorcycle, or more likely for an offgrid cabin.
(and yes I do have a red barchetta)
Unlike some on this board I do not make make stuff up.
sorry it looks like the ebay one is a module from a battery, not a complete battery, But I have seen full batteries at picknpull on a frequent basis, I have seen volt batteries and other hybrid batteries as well.
Some years ago here on FR I suggested Apple could have bought Tesla for pocket change (for Apple that is) but not anymore since Tesla is at a ridiculous price these days.
Probably used batteries. Anything that seems too good to be true usually isn’t true
