When you think about it, there are some fundamental issues with a traditional pack of cards. Why does the male monarch automatically trump the female one? This was something that bugged 23-year-old forensic psychology graduate Indy Mellink, who was unsure why the king is given a higher value than a queen. So, she decided to go about switching things up, to challenge the sexual inequality in a playing card deck that ranks men above women.

In most (not all) games, Ace is high. In games I play, Trump usually refers to a suit (e.g. Pinochle). Speaking of Pinochle, 10 beats both King and Queen, as well.

The article calls her a “woman” and uses the pronoun “she.” What happened to “genderless”?
And a card deck doesn’t rank men above women. The players do because that’s how it is in real life - the king is more powerful than the queen.
