Surveillance video shows pizza delivery driver walk off with puppy from customers' home

A man reportedly stole a puppy while delivering a pizza to a family in Florida.

"It was terrible. I mean, it was just terrible," the dog's owner Rick Block told News4Jax.

Block said his wife used Grubhub to order a pizza from one of their favorite local restaurants. A little while later, they had a pizza but did not have their 10-month-old teacup poodle named Lexi.

Local police said the delivery driver, Arlinson Chilito, grabbed the poodle and hid her in his delivery bag.

Surveillance video showed Chilito walking into an elevator with the dog before leaving the building.

Police quickly tracked down Chilito, arresting him at his home and returning Lexi to Block and his wife.

Grubhub said Chilito was not one of the company's drivers. Instead, Grubhub believes Chilito was using another driver's account without the company's permission or knowledge.

"We are shocked and appalled by this behavior, and there is absolutely no tolerance for it on Grubhub," the company said in a statement. The company also permanently banned the driver whose account Chilito used.

Block said he hopes everybody uses his family's experience as a word of caution.

"This is not about us. It's not even about Lexi, God bless her. Again, this is about people's safety and their property and ... people we are relying on right now every single day. We used to get five meals a week from Grubhub because we stay hunkered down," Block said. Report a correction or typo

I can’t even... the original driver must’ve tipped off the guy that it was a rich couple with a dog and the new guy wanted to do a dog napping for ransom.

There’s NO WAY this was “random”

We can’t get anything ‘delivered’ where we live other than hay, so I’ve not used these services.

However, I have read that Grub Hub has the WORST reviews anywhere you look. They obviously hire criminals and people of Low Moral Standard.

And as a (hunting) dog breeder and Puppy Wrangler, I am VERY happy this puppy was returned; if not for the monetary value, then for the LOVE factor. *HEART*

They are known locally as the “food tasters” of the industry.

Consider yourself lucky. I don’t want to disrespect all hard-working, honest people in these jobs, but service and responsibility are so variable in society today, you never know what you will get.

A 10 month old puppy, and they had the dog out of sight, but easily accessible to any hoodlum that may happen to walk by?
Careless owners! Every dog owner knows most puppies will jump up and greet anybody, because all the dog sees is a new playmate. The puppy doesn’t know any better. They’re like happy toddlers.

In re it not being the registered delivery man, allow me to assure you that this is common with these apps. There is no accountability.

So you’d better hope your Uber driver isn’t a recently released
sex offender. His cousin could hand him his phone and say go drive I’ll split the income with you. It’s easy.

“Careless owners!”

Exactly! I see doggies all the time loose in yards with “electronic fences” ...as if this will keep out coyotes, dognappers, etc. And I can’t count the times I’ve picked up stray dogs that “broke” through the fences. Idiots.

We know the dog napper’s name, but not the cop that murdered Ashley Babbitt...
