Alice Cooper (Vincent Furnier) did similar in the 70’s, but I always got the impression that it was just a performance, not a way of life. I’ve never seen Manson being interviewed or featured without his stage make up on.

Actually I’ve seen Marylin Manson in interviews as a normal person, and out of makeup (well.. full makeup. I guess he likes to keep a few things around).
He seems reasonable and actually rather intelligent. I’m not sure if I’m missing something or the accuser may have some issues.
I have, talking about guitars. Oddly he seemed normal in the clip I saw.
