San Francisco’s school renaming plan rife with historical errors: report
NY Post ^ | 30 Jan 2021 | Dana Kennedy

The San Francisco school board is accused of basing its decision to strip the historical names of 44 public schools off of "casual Google searches".

...The report links directly to the Zoom meetings of the renaming committee, and to its spreadsheet, where the Wikipedia entries justifying the committee’s actions are cited.

...James Lick, the wealthiest man in California when he died in 1876, got the boot because the committee disliked his funding of a sculpture depicting a prostrate Indian at the feet of white men. Nobody apparently read the article, however, because it clearly noted that Lick underwrote the sculpture “posthumously,” via his estate. He died 18 years before its completion.

I have mixed feelings about removing the names of historic figures from schools. I’ve recently concluded that given the poor state of education, these schools don’t deserve to be named after great men. What they deserve is to be named after the likes of George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, and the host other lowlifes that the Media-Dem Party has elevated to sainthood.

>>My son the teacher says a Wikipedia report is an instant ‘F’.<<

Wikipedia is useful for only 2 things:

* Pop culture
* lists of links to real material related to the topic

Sometimes it also can be useful as a casual reference but NEVER as a definitive source.

They have a list of the communists they want to name things after.

It really doesn’t matter to them if they are historically accurate.

For example a street named Phelan was renamed because a former progressive mayor named Phelan was anti-Asian immigration.

It didn’t matter that the street was named after his son, not him.

Nor did they name the street after a San Franciscan who was Asian, say an Asian woman who succeeded.

No, they named it after Mexican communist Frida Kahlo.

Well, we could rename a San Francisco high school for Jonathan Jackson, a Black Panther hero.

That's him holding the revolver and Black Panther Angela Davis' sawed off shotgun (for you Leftist gun collectors out there), taped to Judge Harold Haley's neck.

Or we might name that high school after judge Haley just to be mean.

I read the other day that the SF school board wants to rename one of the schools after Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead.

Now, I don't have anything against Jerry Garcia, but I think that is taking this whole exercise a bit too far.

I can’t quickly find the text on the memorial to Judge Haley at the Marin Civic Center. I paraphrase: “Judge Harold Haley, a just and honorable man, taken from his bench to his death.” I’ve always been moved by that

I think Black Lives Matter has replaced that Memorial with a statue of Elijah Muhammad.

I could be wrong, you might wait a few days ...

Well of course. Judge Haney met his tragic end before our intellectual betters decided that we should hate law and order
