A section of Highway 1 in Big Sur has disappeared.
One lane of the highway was struck by debris flow and washed away, Caltrans reported. The road continues to erode as debris and water continues to flow down off the Big Sur mountains.
According to Big Sur Fire, the section of highway is located at Rat Creek, south of Esalen and north of Big Creek.
Caltrans crews will be out at the damaged section of road Friday morning to fully assess the damage.
How does it get fixed?

You can barely see it from Rock Point Restaurant (closed during this scamdemic and I miss going there)
There is another not too far past Bodega Bay.
We have the best coastline anywhere
Neat video. Judging from the lay of the land I expect the new bridge to be washed away some day....
I have had a 57 Bahama Yellow sunroof coupe, another 57 couple, two 1959 convertible Ds, a 912, a couple piece of crap 924s, and an amazing 924 that made the cover of a magazine -— it was redone to look like a 944, amazing Ferrari red, incredible wheels.
Price is now $14 million, reduced from original asking price of $16 million. Alan Funt (Candid Camera) lived there for years.
Here is another video of the damage. It is going to take more than a few dump trucks of fill and an asphalt patch to fix it..

We’re on the coast. The Coast keeps chipping away. In the 70 plus years
I’ve lived here, I’ve never found it odd or difficult to understand.
