The original US war plans called for double the number of US divisions, intended to be used in Europe assuming Soviets were out of the war.
As Soviets remained in the war, US planners reduced the numbers of US divisions and left many more Americans in factories producing war materials, some to help keep Soviets fighting.
And the Atomic Bomb, of course, was planned from the beginning for use against Germany, not Japan.
FDR's intention was to reduce Germany to an agricultural nation incapable of launching World War Three.
Nobody at the time knew or cared anything about atomic fallout.
