OLYMPIA, Wash. - Say it ain't so, beer lovers: Olympia Beer, a mainstay of bar taps and college parties for decades, is pausing production.

Pabst Brewing Co. made the announcement in an Instagram post Monday. The owner of the iconic local brand said the decicion came afer a decline in the beer's sales.

"Sadly, we have not been able to find a solution to the challenges posed by reduced beer sales and have had to make the difficult deciscion of temporarily pausing production of Olympia Beer," the company said on the beer's Instagram page.

Heilemann wiki, CHECK THIS OUT:

Historic U.S. brewing names that were consolidated into G. Heileman during its final years include : "Black Label, Blatz, Blitz-Weinhard, Drewry's, Falls City, Grain Belt, Gluek Brewing, National Bohemian, Olympia, Rainier, Christian Schmidt, Jacob Schmidt, and Wiedemann. "

Fascinating. Have had all of those but Blitz-Weinhard, Drewery's, and Gluek.

Blatz chilled to near-freezing perhaps the best fishing beer ever. Falls City got the name back in a circumvented way and still sucks. Wiedemann was palatable as the last six beers in the styro cooler filled with a hint of ice and filled to the brim with cold water.

Gosh, it costs as much to brew as what you could buy, and one tainted carboy and it,s gone
Had lots of good home brews, had lot of bad ones too

“I visited their brewery way back in 1973.”

Coincidentally, it was 1973 when I had my first Oly.

I remember the year because I was temporarily living in Iowa at the time, and it was unavailable back in my home state.

I remember thinking it went down light as a feather, and being of barely legal drinking age, I made the most of it.

I had a similar experience with Coors back in those days.

And then both brands changed. For the worse.

The navy guys I knew in the 70s drank Heineken. Most of them were deployed in the Atlantic/Mediterranean.

The old farts drank PBR.

Kids drank Genesee cream ale (16oz returnables).

Blacks drank Miller.

My crew drank Rolling Rock mostly.

“Spoken buy a guy who obviously never drank a Belgian Lambic Ale, or an Old Nick, or a brown ale from Newcastle Upon Tyne or maybe even a Guinness.”

***

Over-rated. Get off your beer high-horse.

Spoken buy a guy who obviously never drank a Belgian Lambic Ale, or an Old Nick, or a brown ale from Newcastle Upon Tyne or maybe even a Guinness. I’ve got a quarter that everyone reading this could tell the difference between and Old Nick and a Guinness and a Bud with a blindfold on.
