OK, made me look it up.
noun
1. the dried rhizome of a South American shrub, or a drug prepared from this, used as an emetic and expectorant.
2. the shrub of the bedstraw family that produces ipecac, native to Brazil and cultivated elsewhere.
OK, the word starts with "ipecac," shudda noticed that. A very round about way of saying it made him wanna puke :-)
