'The trial is stupid': Senate Republicans throw cold water on Trump impeachment (IMPEACHMENT HELD HOSTAGE - DAY 39)

Several Republican senators on Sunday discouraged suggestions that the chamber could convict former President Donald Trump in his upcoming impeachment trial.

"Well first of all, I think the trial is stupid," Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., told "Fox News Sunday." "I think it's counterproductive. We already have a flaming fire in this country and [impeachment is] taking a bunch of gasoline and pouring it on top of the fire."

Rubio added he believes Trump "bears responsibility for some of what happened" during the deadly riots at the Capitol earlier this month but that he does not believe impeachment is the right way to address the matter. He also said it would be "arrogant" to say that Trump should be barred from running for office again.

"The first chance I get to vote to end this trial I will do it because I think it's bad for America," he said. "If you want to hold people accountable there's other ways to do it, particularly for president."

Rubio said impeachment will "make it harder to get important things done and it's just going to continue to fuel these divisions that have paralyzed the country and have turned us into a country of people that hate each other."

The GOPee senators are all a gaggle of craven cowards who failed to do the right thing when the electoral fraud crisis was upon us. Who cares what the hell they do now for their strictly venal reasons? GOPee Delenda Est!

“He isn’t responsible for that the rioters did.”

Correct, and I’ll go along with Rubio saying Trump “bears responsibility for some of what happened because I am proud of most of what happened, which wouldn’t have happened without Trump opening our eyes and running interference for us.

“You cannot impeach a civilian”

Well, Parliamentary history disagrees with you, but in this case it’s unnecessary, because Trump was impeached while he was still President.

Will they just hold a trial in the Senate over his head as a blackmail threat to try to control his post-presidency?

OK , ...

You cannot Constitutionally impeach a civilian.

I'm, of course< referring to this next impeachment trial proposed by the drunk and her bitches.

No, you are asking if the Senate can TRY an impeachment which was passed when the impeached person was in office, as is the case here.

Article I §4 says, “The Senate SHALL have the power to try ALL impeachments”, and, never mind the House of Commons in 1558, the US Senate has tried and convicted persons impeached while in office who were out of office when tried.

Camel Face also said that the protests had to go on without end.... I saw THAT video. SHE also made very inflammatory statements.

I read that Belknap was impeached after he resigned, as well. Matter of hours.

The impeachment process is long and dragged out with meetings and official charges with a trial following.

Nancy Pelosi called for the House to vote whether they "THOUGHT" President Trump should be impeached and a majority said "yes"

It was NOT an impeachment process, it was a kangaroo determination that all democraps and ten RINO's didn't like President Trump

Donald Trump was impeached on January 18, 2021 when he was still President.

What are you talking about? If he were truly impeached why is Pelosi still grousing about it? And, why is Mittens still clamoring for it?
