A new variant of COVID-19 that is inflicting heavy damage across Southern Africa can evade the immunity that is normally provided by previous infection, researchers are discovering.
The research is the latest to raise questions about the dangers of the new variants that were detected in South Africa, Britain and Brazil in recent weeks. Scientists have already warned that the new variants are about 50 per cent more transmissible than earlier variants.
It is still unclear whether the COVID-19 vaccines will be fully effective against the new variants, or whether the vaccines might need to be modified. Studies to be published in South Africa in the next few days or weeks should help to answer that crucial question, and their results will have “global importance,” according to Shabir Madhi, a prominent South African vaccinology professor,
The authors said the new data were worrisome, but they also noted that the vaccines could still produce a broader antibody response that will protect people against the new variants. They emphasized that vaccination is still absolutely recommended.
Earlier this week, South African scientists reported on similar research that showed a significant risk of reinfection from the new variant for people who had been infected by earlier variants.
“The blood samples from half the people we tested showed that all neutralizing activity was lost,” said a report this week by South Africa’s National Institute for Communicable Diseases. “This suggests that they may no longer be protected from reinfection.”
Researchers also examined South Africa’s data on COVID-19 tests. They found 4,000 potential cases of reinfection, where people had twice tested positive for the virus, with a minimum 90-day interval between the tests.
It appears that the mutations in the new variant “have allowed the virus to become resistant to antibody neutralization,” the South African institute said.

Our bodies have more than one kind of immune response. Even if antibodies for a particular pathogen don't last long, we have B and T "memory" cells that remember pathogens they've seen before and can mount a quicker response when they see it again.
You DO actually develop such immunity to common cold viruses you've encountered in the past. If you didn't, you'd perpetually be sick with a cold. In fact, exposure to corona virus common colds can actually confer immunity to covid - which is why not everyone gets sick with it even if exposed. More than half the population may already be immune.
I'm an RN that has been caring for covid+ patients for over a year now and I've never gotten sick. It's not because my PPE and infection control practices are 100% perfect either; nobody's is. I'm already immune. Of this I have no doubt in my mind.

The beauty of the mRNA vaccine is that it can quickly be adapted to a mutating virus. If the spike protein mutates enough to evade the antibodies completely, a booster shot could be produced nearly immediately with mRNA for the new & improved spike. You’ll have to make peace with getting another shot or getting the virus itself.

Must say, however, that those who get it can be terribly ill. My neighbor is a nurse in ICU where C -19 cases are treated. Reports unimaginable agony and death.

Why would this be a shock to anybody? The left at this point controls practically every aspect of society. It is rather depressing.

Flu shots average maybe 50% efficacy even though they’ve been playing with them for a long time - the same Flu that wiped out a LOT of folks a century ago has variants running around today. The common cold provides no long-term immunity.
All these stories do is scare folks enough to make them continue to be submissive to those who saw an opportunity to subjugate the Peoples of the world.
They don’t want us to become totally FRee and we have to decide if we’re gonna cower and obey them or if we will choose FReedom.
I have a doctors appointment as does my demented wife tomorrow, together.
They may offer a vaccine to us . Other than Alzheimer's my 85 yr old wife is healthy.
I have comorbidities.
I m 85, have type 2 diabetes, have had 3 strokes, the last 2 requiring hospitalization. I also have Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis which to me is the likely thing to do me in if I get Covid.
I was never a smoker but somehow about 7 years ago my lungs showed up as being in bad shape, from a lifetime of excellent readings on x rays.
I have gotten the flu shot the last 5 years with no problems at all
This Covid flu shot is different as people are having, to me, an inordinate amount of reactions to the Covid flu shot.

Bill Gates is famous for Windows XP, 7, 8, 9, 10.
He is just setting us up to be upgraded every year or so, he can sell us more operating systems.
Believe it or not, the type of vaccine they came up with does change our DNA. Now they are talking of a 3rd dose that will not need to be tested before giving it to people.
Everything about Gates is about upgrades, money, and things that are susceptible to virus. He could never make a system that anticipated new waves of attacks.
He is still in the same business, but this time there are 7 billion customers, times 2 doses, times $100+ a dose paid by governments into his pocket.
