I cannot WAIT for this!

This means I can do my job from a sailboat reliably. I can be at sea, anywhere, and work.

At that point, adios.

HughesNet satellite (I’m on it) is much cheaper.

Is StarLink susceptible to weather the way HugheNet is?

If you’re in snow country, never mount your dish where you can’t easily get to it to brush snow off. A mistake I made.

You’re right, once the growing pains are worked out and the network gets close to being fully installed, it’s a game changer....

The ways people are going to use this are really amazing..

I suspect they will simply censor websites and content they don’t like.

This will kill companies like Comcast. It has the potential to break part of the strangle hold of bigtech.

If Elon can deliver those speeds he’s got a winner. The problem with current satellite internet is that it is too slow. I have Comcast which I really have no issues with their service.....except they are a far left company. I’ll do this if Elon can get it going.

Satellite signals have inherent high latency, not useful to my setup.

I think the bandwidth per satellite will be much lower. I think the number of starlink satellites is in the hundreds.

Once the portable antenna is miniaturized, every telecom in the world is in jeopardy. The trillion$ in 5G buildout - wasted.

I doubt it seriously. Starlink is going to make Tesla look like one of his hobbies.

He’ll be richer than Bezos and Gates put together. And he hates AI and he hates big tech.

No, I don’t think (as long as he owns it) he will.

And you want to hear smart on smart? Not dependent on FedGov to put satellites in orbit either.

The reverse is true, actually.

I stand corrected. The number of satellites will be just shy of 1500.

I’ve actually seen those satellites and I think Musk is cool. But I’ve got wireless from a company that uses our hill that our water tanks sit on to broadcast into a shadow that other companies can’t get to. Since I’m on the water board I get the service free. Can’t beat a deal like that. Right?

I’m liking where you’re going there.

had directtv for a while....whenever it was stormy, like tornado stormy, we'd lose the signal just when we needed it the most.

does your satellite internet have the same problems?

What about heavy downpours? When its raining cats and dogs my sat tv goes out. That would not be cool for an internet link.

Starlink is at Low Earth Orbit. Their satellites are at only 342 miles orbit as compared to Hughes Net who's satellites are at 22,000 miles above earth.
Latency for Starlink is 20ms to 40 ms
Latency for Hughes Net is 400ms to 500ms
