When the United States entered WWI in April 1917, the fledgling pharmaceutical industry had something they had never had before:
a large supply of human test subjects.
During the war years of 1918 to 1919, the U.S. Army ballooned to 6 million men, of which 2 million were sent overseas.
The Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research took advantage of this new pool of human guinea pigs to conduct vaccine experiments.
In January 1918, vaccines were administered to soldiers at Ft. Riley, Kansas.
Shortly afterward, the vaccine was offered by the Division Surgeon to the camp at large. The vaccine used was made in the laboratory of The Rockefeller Institute. Between Jan. 21 and June 4 of 1918, Dr. Frederick L. Gates reported an experiment in which soldiers were given three doses of a bacterial meningitis vaccine.
The vaccines were spitball dosages of a vaccine serum derived from horses.
Gates wrote that men in the experiment showed flu-like symptoms, including cough, vomiting and diarrhea, after receiving the vaccine. These symptoms are a disaster for men living in barracks, travelling on trains to the Atlantic Coast, sailing to Europe and living and fighting in trenches.
“Interesting how today the military has said Hell No to the experimental mRna “vaccine”
Well, the DoD has been using Pfizer’s mRNA covid-19 vaccine for weeks. I had my first shot 2 weeks ago. Feel great and don’t get fatigued after going shopping. 2nd shot is next Wednesday. It’s improved my life I’d say. Fingers crosssed.
And the green glow I have at night works as a night light /S
Sick with flu, die with pneumonia. Same thing with Covid. Sick with diabetes, heart condition, etc. die with Covid. At any rate without the flu in 1918 or the Covid now, far fewer deaths would have/will occur. People should get the pneumonia vaccines that are available today. I took one about 10 years ago and an improved one a few years ago. No bad symptoms either time. Tender shoulder a day or two is all. The pneumonia danger is why Dr. Zelenko’s 3 part Covid protocol included lung protecting Azithromycin (Doxycycline may be better for some).
Agreed. But it is interesting that an experimental vaccine was being tested on Ft Riley in January, when the Spanish Flu broke out there in March
In a real sense, are you?
The only people who can answer that question; is Americans themselves.
Same question:
Czechoslovakia, Were we a nation? YES, WE WERE!
I know, not allowed, I believe, we were !
Got to say, in 1999, March 29, you saved my life!
Bombing of Serbia
God bless you for that!
Those were REALLY awesome times at FreeRep!
Unforgettable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next was the Bushes Purge!
I was part of it.
It is a water under the bridge now...
I really love you people, however, the fight had shifted.
Every nation on its own!
It is like being in love with a girl who belongs to a different heart!
You can't win her back, just do not want to look like an idiot.
Play cool...
So poetic. . .thanks! And May God Bless You!
There’s the Mangled Genitals ping list as well.
It would be of interest if one thing had anything to do with the other. It didn’t.
The 1918 flu should have been called the Ft Riley Flu. Not the Spanish Flu
I know that they misspelled flu.
I recall a story of how victims buried in tbe arctic were exhumed in an attempt to recover the intact virus.
I’ve not read the Spinney book but the John Barry book is an excellent read.
There was also a good documentary on PBS – The American Experience - Influenza 1918

As I stated earlier, there is no doubt that many who died during this pandemic died from Pneumonia. However, the pneumonia was an opportunistic infection that took advantage of the damage caused by the H1N1 virus.
This is correct. It also needs to be understood that in 1918, while bacteria had been observed under the microscope for many years and were known to cause disease, Louis Pasteur and Edward Jenner developed the first vaccines to protect against viral infections even as they did not know that viruses existed because they (viruses) were too small to be seen under the microscopes at the time (scientists did not actually see viruses for the first time until the 1930s. That’s when the electron microscope was invented) but it had been hypothesized that something other than bacteria were at play in some diseases. In 1918, the science of virology was at its earliest stages.
It was only in 1915, that English bacteriologist Frederick Twort discovered bacteriophage, the viruses that attack bacteria. He noticed tiny clear spots within bacterial colonies, and hypothesized that something was killing the bacteria. And only in 1892 – Dimitrii Ivanovsky observed that agent of tobacco mosaic disease passes through porcelain filters that retain bacteria.
FWIW some early cases of "Spanish Flu" were misdignosed as menigitis.
I tend to distrust what I perceive to be dogmatic propaganda.

I’ve done quite a bit of reading about the Spanish Flu. It killed my paternal grandmother in the third wave, ie, 1920.
It’s not been exactly established that the flu began at Fort Riley. It’s fairly certain in didn’t begin in Spain. It’s very possible that the spanish flu jumped from pigs in a rather small farming community some distance from Fort Riley. Draftees moving to Fort Riley from that town might have been the source. It certainly wasn’t a pneumonia vaccine that started this.

Spain was neutral in The War to End All Wars.
Every other country regarded the outbreak as a state secret, so that no enemy would know their fighting ability had been degraded.
Spain ‘gets the credit’ because they were honest, the only reports of the outbreak had Spanish datelines. There’s a life’s lesson in there somewhere....

It’s also possible that the SF could have originated in some obscure portion of the world without good reporting. It’s very true that the first reports were from Spain. Woodrow Wilson imposed restraints on the US that would now be considered gross violations of civil rights. Yet he is a hero to the progressives.
here’s an interesting article on
the origins and ‘patient zero’ of the spanishs flu:
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/21935798/albert-martin-gitchell
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/21935798/albert-martin-gitchell
The last paragraph gives his information: “PS: Albert Gitchell had no inkling, I am sure, that he was Patient Zero. Anyway, he was not Patient Zero. Because Patient Zero was a construction. And because Albert just wasn’t Patient Zero. The Opie medical commission the army sent to Camp Funston in July 1918 reported that the same disease had been endemic at the camp since it opened the previous September.*”
That information severely undermines the premise of the original post, ie, that the spanish flu was a bacterial infection resulting from a pneumonia vaccine. As this article states: “In January 1918, vaccines were administered to soldiers at Ft. Riley, Kansas.” Rather difficult for a vaccine administered in Jan 1918 to cause infections in September 1917 isn’t it?
That is my understanding as well. That and bacterial meningitis and bacterial pneumonia are two different things with different symptoms.

This thread is proof that the anti-vaxxers will seize on anything to advance their belief that this whole CV thing is nothing more than a conspiracy lead by the Gates to sterilize the entire world by forcing the entire world to take their nefarious vaccine.
Reality has been cancelled.
How true!
When oh When will we get it back?
