THE SOUTH CAROLINA COMMISSIONER.

Col. HAYNE is still on his oars. He dines to-day with Mr. SLIDELL, who gives a large dinner party to seceding and other Senators. He received a telegram from Gov. PICKENS, to day, saying that the most amicable relations were existing with Major ANDERSON, who obtains fresh supplies daily from Charleston market.

WASHINGTON, Tuesday, Jan. 22.

AFFAIRS AT PENSACOLA.

The President dispatched a special messenger to Pensacola, last evening, with instructions to Federal offices to follow a collision under no possible circumstances, unless actually attacked. A telegram was also sent to the same effect.

Secretary HOLT thinks that perfect arrangements now exist to prevent a collision, and the public need apprehend no violation of peace.

The officer previously sent to Fort Pickens as special messenger, returned this afternoon, and gives a gloomy account of the progress of the revolution and his arrest by State authority and detention until he agreed to return with his dispatches.

STOPPING THE MAILS.

The proposition authorizing the Postmaster-General to suspend the mail service in the seceding States, will pass when brought to vote. The measure is said to have been recommended by acting Postmaster-General HORATIO KING.

CHANCES OF COMPROMISE.

Conservative Southern men express indignation at Senator MASON's taunt at Mr. CAMERON, when the latter declared his willingness to support CRITTENDEN's resolutions.

Mr. CRITTENDEN, I learn, says privately that he has had no hope for the Union since Virginia entered the lists; while she presents the issue which will control the Border Slave States, he fears her basis of settlement will be rejected by Northern Border States, and disunion will follow.

DEAN RICHMOND reports that New-York will have delegates here by the 4th of February, to confer with those from Virginia.
