U.S. Senate's Schumer Reviewing Republican Request for Trump Impeachment Trial Delay (IMPEACHMENT HELD HOSTAGE - DAY 36)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is reviewing a request from Republicans to put off the start of former President Donald Trump's impeachment trial until mid-February, a Schumer spokesman said Thursday.

**SNIP**

Trump is the only U.S. president to have been impeached twice, and his trial in the Senate will be the only one ever to have taken place after a president has left office.

A source familiar with the planning told Reuters the House could transmit the article of impeachment as early as Friday, and No. 2 Senate Democrat Dick Durbin said he expected it "in a day or two." In Trump's first impeachment trial, the Senate began the proceedings the day after the charges were sent from the House.

But Republican senators said they had discussed with McConnell the need to give Trump time for "due process," as Senator John Cornyn put it.

"From what I understand from today's conversation, it does not get started until sometime mid-February," Republican Senator Mike Braun told reporters.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declined to answer reporters' questions earlier Thursday about when she would submit the charge. Durbin told reporters that it was still not determined whether the Senate will hold a "full-blown trial with evidence and witnesses" or an "expedited" procedure.

They better hurry. From what I read, the election fraud lawsuits continue.

If a trial is held, Trump’s lawyers should subpoena Bill Ayers (Capitol Building bomber and Obozo’s ghost writer and and BFF) as a witness.

Meanwhile...

The House was told to go home.
Next week’s schedule is cancelled.

Biden made it clear he can run the country with his pen.

Congress is no longer necessary.

ya know...if the the Senate is this foolish..to even take up this psuedo-issue (solely because its subordination to CCP/UniParty interests have been made obvious by DJT in this this election cycle) - the rest of the country will simply have to convene a separate legislative body to deal with all legitimate USA interests which the Senate refuses -and by its compromise by CCP/Uniparty priorities-may not actually be fit to address- on our behalf any longer

Fed.gov is pi^&ed DJT has brought the Senate’s subordination to CCP interests and priorities out in the open, making all this obvious to the deplorables in flyover country.

Sunlight is a disinfectant

So the impeachment decisions and process will be held hostage by Schumer who will demand Biden’s people get confirmed quickly. Mitch will lick the boots of Schumer. No one including Mitch has said you can’t impeach a non sitting President. Our spineless party should all be on steps of capital stating this.

Just wondering....if they go with this ‘script’...the Nat’l Guard deployment continues on? Say past Easter?

Doesn’t this all look more and more like Paraguay?

Why is Schumer the Majority Leader? The Dems are not in the majority. The Repubs have 50 senators too. The VP shouldn’t be used to award the majority to the Dems.

It’s not our party. It’s the CCP’s. Republicans are traitors as much as dems.

If the Chief Justice presides I guess that means the SCOTUS must decide if the trial of a private citizen, no longer in office, is Constitutional.

Stay tuned.

Seems like a bill of attainder to me, to have a legislative body pass a sentence on a private citizen.

“the election fraud lawsuits continue.”

Quo warranto. Bring it.

“Quo warranto is a special form of legal action used to resolve a dispute over whether a specific person has the legal right to hold the public office that he or she occupies.

“Quo warranto is used to test a person’s legal right to hold an office, not to evaluate the person’s performance in the office.”

To be fair, it is being held hostage by Pelosi.

Personally, I think she will continue to hold it as leverage to ensure Trump does not try to build a new party or primary any of the RINOs currently there. That being the case, she can hold it until the expiration of the current Congress on Jan 3, 2023, at which point it becomes void. If she submits it to the Senate, and they quickly dismiss it, she has no leverage.

Right now, she is in control, and she likes it that way.

So they are going to impeach a man who isn’t in office for crimes he may have committed, wouldn’t that be a criminal prosecution for anyone not holding a judgeship or elected office? I guess with Trump the uniparty(apologies to the Party Pukes who still believe the GOP BS) just makes it up as they go.

If I were Trump I wouldn’t set foot in this circus or I would and cause as much damage to both parties as possible and still ignore their verdict and run again if I wanted too.

Impeachment is for office holders. Trump holds no office, therefore he can not be impeached. Prove me wrong.

Should Chief Justice John Roberts rule that a former President can be impeached then that would clear the way for a future republican majority to impeach Barrack Obama. Pure nonsense but knowing that scumbag Roberts, don’t put it past him.

I think President Trump needs to demand a total, full throated defense in a Senate trial. It maybe even needs to start with a lawsuit requiring this, based on Constitutional rights to a fair trial and Freedom of Speech. He needs to find a US Circuit Court judge who will issue an injunction against the Senate requiring this. This will, of course, go into the appeal process, hopefully up to, and including a Supreme Court trial. This will, of course, delay the Senate trial for months. The longer it goes the sillier the Democrats will look. If he can stretch this out until next year, the Democrats will likely drop it in order to avoid the election fallout.
