Holy Toledo!!! I just added my 16 year old daughter to our policy this evening and the premium for full coverage on 3 vehicles went from close to 1100.00 for six months to just under 3000.00. Time to switch carriers immediately! As if 2021 couldn’t get worse with the fraud President being installed in already getting gouged with insurance and soon to be gasoline.
I forgot to mention - as an aside for all other FReepers reading this thread - that your insurance premium increase is EXACTLY the multiple about which I counseled innumerous clients and others over the years.
Factoid: No one ever believed me. Not a one. But I wasn’t in the industry long enough for those kiddos to reach driving age for more than a couple of clients. Thankless industry, insurance.
You should be pleased that your driving & claims histories are so good (I can tell from the low increase; I’ve seen worse).
Paid in Jan
AAA if you are a military family USAA!,,
As I was teaching my daughter to drive she pulled onto a highway without stopping. Oncoming traffic at 55!
I was saying, "stop, Stop, STOP! STOP STOP STOP!!!"
She said I was "creating a hostile environment."
Fun times.
Our 16 year old is a cheerleader who I’ve been taking back and forth to the gym for years, it’s actually satisfying that she is able to drive herself to the gym, the 4 times a week, herself now.
Consider it cost of doing business. That $2000 plus increase has freed you to do so much more in other activities. That said, I agree with some of the other comments on vehicle choices etc.
My wife always said the only reason teenagers get driver’s licenses is because their parents get tired of driving them everywhere.
I’m fixing up an old Saturn for my 15 year old grandson who will get it this summer along with his license.
I had my kids use my car to go back and forth.....they never owned a car until they could buy their own.
.
They could use the parent’s car...that’s they way it was in my neighborhood.

Ok so here’s the update for everyone. I’ve been on the phone with pretty much all the big players and a couple brokers this morning. It turns out that Esurance is a complete price gouge.
I did do a bundle quote with all companies to include my homeowners insurance but not including my rentals. So 3 cars and our primary home.
Quotes came in all over the place.
Auto owners and USAA were within a couple dollars of each other right around 4660.00 for 12 months prepay for just autos. They’re out!
Next was State farm at 2380.00 six months in autos and 1568.00 for homeowners. They’re out!
AMFAM 2698.76 for home and auto (1766.20 for autos, 932.56 home). They’re a possible solution.
Best so far is Allstate at 2677.28 for home and auto (1682.39 autos and 994.89 for home). So far that’s the planned change with one more quote I’m waiting for from Liberty Mutual.
Just thought I’d let y’all know. I was kind of shocked at Esurance especially when they’re owned by Allstate not being competitive.
Holy moly I haven’t seen a Saturn in the road in I don’t know how long.
Plastic body holds up well, got a good solid chassis from FL, replace suspension parts as needed, engine and trans are pretty durable.
I had one of the sedans way back before I got married. The vehicle dashboard I could pretty much pull out on request. Cheaply built but I was a young guy and pretty much beat the crap out of that car. The car I got after that was a Pontiac Grand Am, another car I beat the crap out of.
As an old guy now I drive fast on the freeway but otherwise pretty tame everywhere else. I’ve gotten the idiocy out of my system.
That’s how it was in my neighborhood.
Buying a car for a 16 year old boggles the mind.
