How did a tiny tribe of desert nomads become so important to history?
Of all the tribes of people, why is it that a group of pastoral tribal nomads, who were minorities then and minorities now, seem to have such an enduring presence in our world? Why is the Judeo-Christian god chosen by more people on the planet than any other? Because ideas and the details matter. Their ideas have stood the test of time and ended up shaping many assumptions we take today to be self-evident in Western civilization.

3 Jewish Ideas That Changed the World
How did a tiny tribe of desert nomads become so important to history?

Genesis 12:1-3
Now the Lord said to Abram,
“Go forth from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father’s house,
To the land which I will show you;
And I will make you a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And so you shall be a blessing;
And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
Genesis 22:17
indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies.
Why chosen? Perhaps because He is the true God?
They left off separation of the king (government) from the priesthood.
In most people (and Islam today), the two were interconnected in some way (e.g., Caesar, Egyptian Pharaohs, Japanese Emperor).
Despite the progress in science and technology, it appears that empires are still subject to cycles. Since the year zero the Roman Empire rose and fell, the Holy Roman Empire rose and fell, the Spanish Empire rose and fell, Napoleon's Empire rose and fell, the British Empire rose and fell, the Third Reich rose and fell, the Soviet Union rose and fell, and now it appears that the American Empire that rose is now falling.
And what some call 'progress' in science and technologies others call a curse. Will 'progress' ultimately lead to humans being supplanted by cyborgs, genetically modified chimera, or full-up AGI robots?
Will our 'messiah' be a nuclear hardened Tesla with robotic arms?
Ethical monotheism (one God, whose opinion is expressed in Law)
That God is not of nature but transcends nature
That history is not circular and repetitive, but linear and progressive
I think there are other Jewish ideas and ideals which have changed the world, too; but the three stated by the author provide the principles which make for a radical departure from all other previous systems of thought and belief.
Collectivism is the idea making the biggest change in the world, today.
"Each generation moves closer to salvation and is expected to develop morally and ethically."
Yes. We finally evolved to realize that homosexuality is a beautiful form of love and that transgenderism is not a mental disorder.
No there were others that had separation. The ones you mentioned were religions where the leader was a god.
These weren’t Jewish ideas but divine truths revealed.
“No there were others that had separation. The ones you mentioned were religions where the leader was a god.”
I am fully prepared to believe you, but I can’t think of other examples.
And certainly none that effected Western Civilization like the Jewish concept of separation of government and priest.
In Western Civilization, this Jewish idea of separation combined with the Greek and Roman ideas of a democratic republic and slowly has grown to be accepted throughout the world (again, notably excepting Islamic countries).
I think there is not an inconsistency but a dichotomy between temporary history and ultimate history as regards cyclical history and progressive history. I think there is the former condition and it does go on and on, and then progressive history begins to reign AFTER the Messiah reigns.
I think there is much in every time which can seem like “progress” but the only progress that concerns G-d is moral progress with a combined faith in almighty G-d. The rest that is “modern” at any time is in the appearance of things and not underlying moral conditions, which may be better or worse at any “current” time, regardless of material or technological conditions.|
And, I think we truly do not know how much, be it centuries, millenniums or eons that cycles will repeat before Christ reigns and progressive history begins.
We could say that going from tyranny to extending the vote to everyone was a form of progress, but they extended the vote to everyone in the Soviet Union, and there are those who claim (with good reason) that voting in the West is not truly democratic as the citizenry is not properly educated and the information they receive is deceptive and skewed.
Currently we are about to abolish sex distinctions. Also, we are supposed to simultaneously believe that there is no such thing as race and only Whites are racist. We are to believe that something only a few years ago defined as a mental disorder is now something that must be respected and enforced by law, i.e. transgenderism.
In what way is this moral progress?
The Christian message that came out of the Jewish community is that much of mankind will devolve into complete disorder and perversion before the Messiah comes. I don't see that as progressive rather than cyclical since it seems to be a repeat of what happened right before The Flood.
Because we are social animals
This man thinks we came from monkeys.
Psalm 14 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Foolishness and Wickedness of People.
For the music director. A Psalm of David.
1 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they have committed detestable acts;
There is no one who does good.
2 The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of mankind
To see if there are any who [a]understand,
Who seek God.
3 They have all turned aside, together they are corrupt;
There is no one who does good, not even one.
I thought that mainstream content that praises Judaism and admits its influence on modern society was worth sharing.
What a horrible article. This article reduces Christianity to ideas and philosophy. Jesus didn't say, "believe in my ideas". He said, "believe in Me." People don't chose Christianity because of idea's. They come to Christ because they are drawn by the Holy Spirit.
John 6:65 - And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”
