As usual, your comments are thoughtful and are rooted in apparent law.
However, following the example of many presidents, Abraham Lincoln comes to mind, a strong leader determined to end the killing of innocents, the destruction of private property, and burning of federal buildings, could have, would have, should have brought in his AG in and ordered him - repeat ordered him - to find a legal loophole to allow him to send in the troops to stop the lawlessness that state and local authorities refused to do. I would have also found a way to arrest those mayors for complicity.
This is a war against our civilization and in this instance, Trump failed in his duty as I believe history will judge his duty.
To paraphrase Lincoln...save the country and let the courts fight it out later
Even in this late hour, you can see, by reading here, how utterly useless Legacy Conservatism and it's adherents were to this threat.
I actually read a thread today full of people posting the "rioters" deserve jail.
Amazing.
Let’s see how Freepers feel about this when Joe Biden sends armies of Federal bureaucrats out across the land to make sure people are wearing stupid masks.

When early in his term President
Trump set up a team to ferret out voter fraud there was of course resistance from dim states and no cooperation. That effort died on the vine. At the time I felt it was an error to give up on it because I felt his future second term was being put in jeopardy. Time and events rolled on until the 2020 election arrived and for the most part the President and most here were confident but also most of us here always cautioned the level of voter fraud was a wild card. It’s easy to Monday morning quarterback but to me that wilted effort in retrospect might have been the fatal mistake.
It didn’t fail.
