On the Right there’s a heck of a lot of shunning being experienced. The tech titans throwing us off their media; the US Chamber of Commerce members frantically virtue signaling their desire to fund only congressional opinions they subscribe to; the daily hit list of small businesses harassed by the “virtuous” in their communities.
But, there’s something at odds with logic in most of these relationships. When the Fortune 500 tell us we’re deplorable, when twitter or facebook shut us out, those are cases where the providers of goods and services are giving an extended middle finger to a big chunk of their customers (maybe the customer is not always right?).
Conventional responses to such campaigns generally extend no further than boycotts. And we’re probably happy to boycott whichever banks, credit cards, stores, websites or others find us offensive. Boycotts are easy, but sadly the costs are borne by the victims’ shareholders, never the execs that want to get the cocktail invites.
Some on the Right speak of secession – free the Red States! Sorry, that’s a non-starter. Face it, the nation comprises 50 states and they are 50 shades of purple.
So, how about a middle way, a virtual secession? By that I mean one not dividing the country along geographical lines on a map, I mean one where we all draw our own lines: we trade with or provide service to only those that we approve of?
All of these powerful organizations rely on a lot of deplorables to “keep the lights on”. MegaCinoCrap.com needs someone to replace a bad switch in their datacenter; megaRateBanccorp needs someone to supply secure printing services; senator R.Ino needs his driveway plowed; the editor of bezosBlog.com needs his washer repaired; the Hon. Barry O. Appointedme needs his septic serviced.
And further and further it goes. Most of them need fresh fruit and vegetables. Some people still like to eat out. Most people need fresh water. And fuel. And food. And functional plumbing.
I’d bet that a fair number of the providers of such goods and services are not too enamored with the ruling class’ antics of late – their high-handed dismissal of legitimate concerns over election fraud, their attempts to crush small and medium business in favor of their chums, their inept virus response mismanagement, their attempted coups against Donald Trump and so on.
So again, how about we secede from them in our daily lives? No more helping them with their lives or their businesses.
They’re obviously sick of us deplorables. Let’s see how much they really miss us when we’re not there for them.
“Secession”
The owners of these firms are billionaires & multi-millionaires. They have their loot.
They don’t give a damn about the owners of these companies (the shareholders) and their financial losses.
A half-Galt maneuver. Not quite a full Galt but it’s a start.
I’m referring to the smaller owners, the shareholders.
“Jack” at Twitter has pocketed billions already by going public. Shareholders are now bagholders.
No but the services you use as examples are usually performed by employees, not entrepreneurs so unless the company agrees to your “secession” of services, you might have a problem keeping your job. But by all means, work your own blacklist of companies, entertainment and causes you will now shun. I have had one for years and the list is getting bigger by the day.
And lets put yellow stars on the people that don’t agree with us too so we “Dont have to look at them” /S
Yeah I know. I knew as soon as I hit “Post”. Still, some search engines will miss that word now ;-)
Just canceled Twitter and Facebook. Need youtube, google, and mozilla alternatives.
They are out for Blood
Yes, they are. Let’s head em off before they get to that. We are many, they are few. And they are largely incompetent.
Understood, those came to mind but the range of things we all need is vast and not getting some of them can be very, very troubling.
Rumble=YouTube
Dissident, except for android=mozilla
Yes, a Galt move. But one where you can stick around and smile as you deliver the news.
Glenn Beck, yeah I know, said that we may be headed for parallel economy. About the same idea you spoke of, although he was saying it as if it would be forced on us in order to survive.
As you said, we cannot geographically split, but maybe economically?
And do it right in their midst.
These CEO’s view stockholders as chumps.
To update something Ronald Reagan said:
I didn’t leave the Republican Party so much as they left me.
Without physical separation, there is going to be a lot of violence. Some people are going to have to move, others will simply be uncomfortable. 160 years ago, not everyone in Alabama supported slavery, and not everyone in New York favored freeing the slaves. Physical separation is going to become necessary. Otherwise, it’s going to get REALLY messy. It’s sad that it is coming to this. Actual political representation on the Right would have caused a decent resolution 20 years ago. We didn’t have any.
I believe that’s called “going Galt”. There’s a whole book written about it called “Atlas Shrugged”. You might want to check into it.
