Andrew Torba, CEO of Gab.com, is being interviewed by Steve Bannon. I found this tidbit of information very interesting. Torba states that Gab.com software has been developed as open source and it is available to anyone that wants to spin up their own Gab.com.
Granted, there are other huge infrastructure issues in doing so. But those issues are solved off-the-shelf. You don't have to develop your own server hardware and networking equipment. Simply add money and purchase. The software component of this is the time consuming element.

Just signed up. Looks good.
It’s Time To Build a Free Speech Internet Of Our Own by Andrew Torba, October 18, 2019
What we all need to realize is that together we vastly outnumber Silicon Valley. They only control us only as long as you and I continue to let them do it.I refuse to allow it any longer.
So we are building the free speech internet, and I’d like for you to join us.

That was one of the most inspiring interviews I’ve seen in a long time. Torba is brilliant, forward looking, and a patriot.
Everybody, so far, has ignored the primary issue. Gab is open source.
This is the way to re-write the rules against the progressives.
Thanks, bfl.
Gab converted to Mastodon a while ago. They did have their version of Mastodon posted & available when they converted.
The person responsible for Mastodon is a Progressive, to put it mildly. If Gab made significant changes to scale Mastodon, I’m not sure Eugen would fold them into Mastodon.
You may have a hard time finding a native Mastodon application that will open a Gab feed. Most have Gab.com coded out of the application, since including Gab may get that application banned on other Mastodon instances.
Parler should junk what they have & bite the bullet to migrate to Mastodon.
Iirc gab.com is a fork (clone) of mastodon which is a federated system based on activitypub. There are many hosted instances of mastodon. If you are on one you can communicate with someone on another if the instances agreed to federate with each other.

C'mon FReepers, DO IT!
Thanpks for posting. I was watching too and GAP also has its own browser called Dissenter.
I just downloaded it and am using it now. Here is the url if anyone wants to be pretty much invisible to all of the advertisers and data grabbers that are selling your information to big tech and probably the deep state as well.

It’s not very difficult to setup something like XMPP for messaging, but scaling is very difficult without cloud. Cloud is literally suited for scale. When you’re constrained by on-premise hardware, it’s very easy to get overwhelmed by users.
We should start to discuss the use of “older” Internet technologies like IRC to have a backchannel mode of communication for when the powers that be decide our platform is a weapon.
Here it is on Gab.
We should work to limit Twitter clicks as much as possible.

I started using Dissenter browser yesterday. So far so good.
We should also discuss the use of newer technologies like distributed apps, IPFS (Inter planetary file system), libp2p ...
Do you know what dissenter sets as it’s ‘user-agent’ field?
This is what the server sees for the browser identification. If it identifies as dissenter (instead of say ‘Safari/5.0’ or ‘Firefox/16.1’, or even ‘none of your business’) servers run by ayatollahs of woke might block/track it.
I only reference older tech like IRC, because it’s stood the test of time. IRC is distributed and difficult to interrupt, but it’s not exactly secret. Same would go for privately run XMPP instances.
