The rise of Newsmax TV has caused a major shake-up at Fox News, which announced Monday that its early evening show host Martha MacCallum has been demoted back to an early afternoon slot, among other changes to the lineup.
"Newsmax's consistently strong numbers during the day and especially at the 7 p.m. ET slot has caused panic at Fox, which rarely makes lineup changes," Newsmax said in a statement Monday, adding with a wink, "The Fox is on the run."
MacCallum's "The Story" had long been the #1 cable news show in the 7 p.m. time slot, until Newsmax TV's "Greg Kelly Reports" began a ratings surge in recent months.
With Kelly pulling an average of 800,000-plus viewers per minute each night, MacCallum had fallen to third place behind CNN and MSNBC.
In December "Greg Kelly Reports" beat MacCallum in a key demo, a news story broken by CNN.
Newsmax has consistently taken one-third to one-half of Fox's audience in each day part, according to the Nielsen Coverage Rating. The Coverage Rating shows a network's viewership proportionate to the homes that can tune in.
Last week the Nielsen Coverage Rating for 7 p.m. showed that in the crucial 35-64 demo, "Greg Kelly Reports" was pulling more than half of MacCallum's "The Story" (.77 versus 1.53).
The Nielsen numbers tell only half the story. Newsmax streams free on most OTT platforms and Fox News does not.
Newsmax estimates the OTT viewership nearly doubles its Nielsen average viewership numbers.
Newsmax's consistently strong numbers have caused Fox to make additional changes.

Fox News is nuts.
Now they are saying their new business strategy is to win back their lost viewers by creating a “safe space for conservatives during the Biden administration”.
Are they on drugs?

The reason it is not considered was summed up by a former neighbor of mine when Trump won in 2016. “I can’t believe that there are that many racists in America!”
Their projection of their world view leaves them incapable of accepting any input of facts that would change that world view.
I am sure that Twitter was told many times that Trump has millions of followers, but their would view wont allow them to accept that fact because it would force them to reconsider .... well, everything.
Neil Cavuto and Sandra Smith are the worst here of the bunch. And their beat reporters Jackie Heinrich and Fisher sound like lovers of CNN. Can’t stand their tone, and their disgust for Trump and love for Biden was quite evident to me.
I think a fair and balanced approach would start with replacement of the BOD with new members who understand the concept of an underserved market (Conservatives and non-squishy Republicans) and how to serve them.
That necessary first step will not happen.

Fox News if forever dead to me and will be forever more. The Republican Party disaster is going to make the death of Fox News look like a picnic. They will probably lose most small donations and the Big Dogs in the corporate world are stabbing them as we type in an orgy of victorious blood letting. I myself plan on joining whatever new party comes along or joining the Libertarian Party if nothing else comes along. I plan to get active within whatever party it is and work to change it to a patriotic, freedom-oriented party. America First is not dead.

Wow, that’s a shame. I’m quite sue Jedidiah was fairly conservative years ago. I lost track of her when she left FNC to go to The View (barf!), then I guess she went back to FNC to the early morning show (I don’t watch TV in the early mornings).

The only people who could compete with Newsmax at 7pm are Pete Hegseth with Will Cain. There’s a duo! They are being wasted on weekends, especially with Bila. Bury her in weekend no mans land with Arthell and Eric. That’s where she belongs.

He’s great. I discovered him a couple months before the election because there was nothing on at 7 pm once they switched Lou Dobbs to the 5 pm hour.
