There have been reports that companies such as Apple (maybe others) are planning an update to disable the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) which is mandated by law on all smart phones. While we cannot confirm this, it is clear that actions are being directed against certain platforms and individuals due in part to certain political agendas. These actions have escalated since January 6, 2021, and taking place in a coordinated fashion.
As a pro-active measure, we strongly suggest persons receiving this message do the following:
1. Disable the auto-update feature on all network connected two-way communication devices. This would include smartphones, tablets, laptops, even watches. At the time of this writing, information on how to update these settings are still searchable. There are technical work arounds if updates are needed.
2. To all small and medium business using cloud based services: We suggested a nightly backup of all sensitive data to a local drive (i.e. detachable from the downloading device) with a routine retention policy (e.g. delete backups after a certain number of days). Note to businesses: Your company web staff should know how to do this, but insist that you - and not the web staff have a copy in your possession. All persons should download and keep hard copies of your personal contacts in case of operating system error.
3. Obtain the IP address of your websites where you receive information important to you. Use this in the event of domain traffic interruption.
That is all.
Found mine under “Users & Accounts”
Um, so people couldn’t get an emergency signal or message from the President. Duh.
The app is already disabled.
I’m basically done with Apple products.
They all know it could blow up any time.
there are over 100 on paper ..depends if someone pulls the plug..
Agreed. Tinfoil hats were topical long before cell phones, especially smart phones were dreamed of.
An ebay search for GrapheneOS, https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313&_nkw=+GrapheneOS&_sacat=0
Compatible with Android apps. Has no google apps or services. You can install apkpure installer and then it’s easy install of any app in the apkpure store, https://apkpure.com/. They have the parler app. In fact, they have most apps that are in the google play store.
Graphene is only compatible with the Pixel line of phones made by/for google. Good kick in the nuts to google to use their phones but not have one single byte of google code on it.
We have a cheap ZTE chinaphone that updates broke on so we’re 3-4 OS updates behind.
Your link goes to an article that has a link to volla kickstarter but it didn’t go anywhere and was cancelled, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/volla/volla-phone-freedom-through-simplicity-and-security
If you want a brand new phone and don’t mind not being able to install Android apps, this is your best bet, https://puri.sm/products/librem-5/
Librem 5 $799
Librem 5 USA, $2999
“”” Librem 5 USA, a premium version of the Librem 5 phone that focuses on security by design and privacy protection by default with a secure supply chain and electronics Made in USA. Outfitted with hardware kill switches and specially designed hardware, you are in control of the flow of information. “””
Still has all the basics; call, text, camera, docs, web browser, files etc.
List of apps; https://tracker.pureos.net/w/pureos/mobile_optimized_apps/
My wife uses fb messenger to communicate with co-workers and supervisors. She also has a paycheck app. She uses facebook games on the phone. No Librem 5 for us. I’m going to make the swap to a Pixel 3 or 4 with GrapheneOS. That way she can use her Android apps. She has the phone most of the time anyway. I’ll grab it if I’m going on a trip to somewhere further than the grocery store. Tractor Supply for instance is a half a day round trip. We live in a rural area.
What emergency message or signal would he be sending?
I updated my iPhone yesterday (IOS 14.3) and the EAS is still toggled to enabled. It did try to set auto updates to on, but I toggled it back off.
I’m not going to stop updating my laptop. I run Linux anyway, specifically Kubuntu with KDE Plasma desktop. If we ever decide to get a second cell phone, I may get this; https://pine64.com/product/pinephone-community-edition-kde-plasma-mobile-with-convergence-package-limited-edition-linux-smartphone/?v=0446c16e2e66
Then I’d basically have the same OS on my phone that I run on my laptop, KDE Plasma. I already have KDE Connect on my laptop & phone which will connect them. I can get phone notifications on my laptop or visa versa, ring the phone if I can’t find it, use the phone as a touchpad/keyboard, synchronize contacts, share a clipboard, receive and reply to text messages via laptop, peruse files. Having KDE Plasma on both ought to make them super connected.
The Left is worried he would use the EAS to tell Patriots that the country needs to be saved and tell us to fight back. Namely, to grab our arms and ‘go to town’ on the Left, aka CWII.
No. Cause that’s silly.
Just checked my Samsung smartphone. The ability to toggle on or off Emergency Alerts has been removed. I can no longer find it.
You may think it’s silly, but that’s what they’re thinking. Kind of like a possible ‘last ditch effort’ to get a message to Patriots. Cut off all communications between him and us, and among oueselves.
Thank you. I would never have known how to find that.
I guess I should bookmark this too, just in case.
It’s silly because that would actually be an act of high treason and an impeachable offense. Anybody on either side thinking that needs to relearn thinking.
And let’s keep in mind, all this is an unsubstantiated rumor. And as the OP says if they actually did it they’d be committing a felony.
Aaaaaaand....I found it. Nothing is switched off.
“The question is what exactly are they afraid of and why?”
Well, we have 10 days to find out, I guess. I am still hopeful ...
