Democratic control of Senate — and Capitol breach — put D.C. statehood front and center
Washington Post ^ | 1/7/20 | Meagan Flynn and Fenit Nirappil

Posted on 01/08/2021 10:13:39 AM PST by Meatspace

The collision of two major events Wednesday — the breach of the U.S. Capitol and Democrats’ clinching of the Senate majority — has unleashed a burst of momentum for D.C. statehood at the start of a new congressional session.

At a Thursday news conference, Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) grew impassioned as she sought to frame the stakes of the statehood cause against the backdrop of Wednesday’s insurrection: D.C. residents, she said, risked their lives to defend a Congress that affords them no voting representation.

Funny how that works.

DC Police and Capitol Police under the control of Pelosi coordinate to seizing of the Capitol and they want to parlay that into Statehood for DC.

It would be completely contrary to our former Constitution and the design of the founders.

All they have to do is get 38 states to agree to give up their rights and be ruled by a central super state.

Who is going to stop the Dems from making DC a state?

The Constitution? It doesn’t matter any more.

SCOTUS? Who ever brought suit against it happening would be ruled to have ‘no standing.’

Congress? If only simple majorities are required in the House and Senate, then Dems have the majority in the House, and while currently tied in the Senate, there would easily be turncoat RINOs who would go along.

A national referendum? With Dominion machines counting the mail-in ballots, the outcome is obvious.

SAME ANSWERS apply to whether to abolish the Electoral Collage and pack SCOTUS.

The District of Columbia does not even make a decent COUNTY, let alone a “state”. Pare the actual district down to the stretch along Pennsylvania Avenue, to take in the Capitol, the Supreme Court building and the White House complex, then deed the remaining area back to Maryland, designating it District county, and subject to the Maryland legislature.

But of course that is much too logical a step for the rabid “reformers” now with hands on the levers of power.

“D.C. residents, she said, risked their lives to defend a Congress that affords them no voting representation.”

Oddly enough the hot button issue should be taxation without representation. Fight for no taxation and skip the reps.

No taxation is not going to happen, statehood might.

However, no taxation in DC is a better option and would increase real estate values in the District.

Howard Baker and Strom Thurmond tried to end-run for D.C. statehood c. 1978.

help Educate me, but even if the House, Senate and President approve making DC a State, doesn’t that still require two thirds of the States to Ratify it?

No. As crazy as it sounds, bringing a new state into the union only requires congressional vote and a presidential signature (assuming the territory itself wants statehood).

Article IV, section 3

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; ...

They will do that...and much more. <-- That's what was as stake this last election.

Never let a crisis go to waste.

D.C. statehood is a key part of the totalitarian plan.

Not a chance. This is Democrat bluster. Puerto Rico maybe , but DC requires a Constitutional Awomendment that would need 38 states to okay it. It would die on the vine because if the Democrats had the power to make it happen they really wouldn’t need it and they will soon discover their political capitol will go just so far.

Nope. New rule. President Sperm Bank can write an EO to make it so.
