What may users legally do to cost Facebook and Twitter money?
As a kid, I remember activists standing in the teller's line at the bank and politely asking to exchange ten $1s for one $10. They would return to the back of the line, wait their turn, then politely ask to exchange one $10 for ten $1s. For hours. The bank could either comply, or toss them out -- which event the waiting TV and newspaper cameras would record.
I plan to leave both platforms, so being kicked off is not an issue.
How can I do that in way that costs Facebook/Twitter money, without incurring criminal or civil liability?
Don’t use them.
Leave them. Never look back. Motivate friends to leave, too.
Less eyes, less ad income.
File a lawsuit.
I quit FakeBook over 2 years ago, deleted EVERYTHING I EVER POSTED (took some time, Though) and will never use it again............................
Send an email to all of your like minded contacts. A blind copy. Ask them to delete their Facebook accounts. Time to spend our time and money only with trusted agents. Turn of cable news as well.
Quit providing them with content. I shut my FB account down over a month ago because I got tired of their deceptive and inaccurate “fact checking”.
Best and cheapest idea.
Don’t use them.
Social media is cancer.
Leave, don’t follow links to the site, determine you may miss some funny stuff, maybe a news piece but be happy knowing you’re starving the beast.

As far as I know, the only major two ways that FB makes money is by selling ad space to advertisers, and by monetizing user’s private information, which again is usually to advertisers, but also to data aggregators, some of which are politically oriented.
Either way, what polymuser says is true. The less traffic you contribute, and the less of your own data your give up, the less you give them.
I have never used Facebook but would it hurt them to sit up an account, then cancel, then set up, then cancel? Not sure, that would cost them money. I would worry they would use the number of new accounts in advertising.
Another approach is to call their customer service and have a list of very detailed questions (with follow up questions), but never set up an account. You could do the same with the advertising department. If they pay their workers $10 an hour this would cost them $10 per hour.
If you are in any group such as a church, you could band with other members to have the group drop it’s account.
I heard that blocking their advertisers will hurt. Dunno. I deleted Twitter this morning since Trump is gone. He’s the only reason I was there to start with. I’m still on Parler.

Remember that you do not pay Facebook or Twitter to use their platform. This means that your presence on their platform is what earns them money.
The best way for you to cost them money is to leave and convince others to leave their platform.
One of them, FB or Twitter, said he can come back after Biden is sworn in. Twitter originally only banned him for 12 hours. I read something about him being allowed to tweet but don’t recall the conditions. I have FB but it’s for family and close friends (real friends). I don’t do politics there. Trump and news was the only reason for Twitter and Parler.
Get back to me when you are ready to kill the people who run twitter and Facebook.
I’n not interested in anything else on that front.
