OH Please!

$2000 to a rich/affluent person is nickels on the dollar!

Right now I am at the end of the rope and the end is fraying. I’ve worked hard, very hard all my life. Never once to unemployment until last year under PUA. why? They shut down the economy and literally killed my business! Down some 85%! Just not sustainable at this point.

The state awarded me XX amount of dollars unemployment and on Dec. 18th sent me a redetermination letter that claims they misfigured by nearly 55%. So now I am stuck with owing thousands of dollars that I cannot repay.

I have worked in some capacity throughout last year until I fell down some stairs due to fogged glasses and mask. Then it was ankle surgery and 16 weeks in non-weightbearing.

This week my only car engine blew at 206,000+. I tried to get financing for a new car, but the banks won’t take my 2019 taxes and only work off the last 3 months of bank statements! Why such tight lending rules? Covid and the crumbling economy! Well ...hello...broken ankle and not working.

I need a car because my business depends on me getting from location to location. Without it...no income.

Plus property taxes are now due.

I am trying to pull up my bootstraps at this point, but they broke a few months ago too. I’ve started going to food pantries...which now without a car...I cannot get to them and you have to ‘drive-thru.’

I have resumes sent out for a job, but at my age and health I might as well put a gun to my head, rather than catch Covid. But I have no choice. I literally have to risk my life to have an income and keep from being homeless.

And I am sure a bunch of elite FReepers will jump on here and tell me I should have planned for a rainy day...well I did and it poured and it is still pouring with the flood waters rising. Would $2000 help right about now? Hell yeah! Frankly for those in my boat(and there’s a lot of us)the $600 was a major slap in the face.

Would getting rid of this pandemic help...oh a hell lot yeah, because the recovery for my business would be astounding. The growth rate for my niche of work is predicted by BLS to grow some 22% by 2029! It is the fastest growing niche of the economy. But it cannot do that with everything constantly be locked down nationally and internationally.

We’re now pushing a year into this pandemic. Those in the middle class and working class have expended all their savings already. Many are going to be rocked by the amount of taxes they owe on the government unemployment paid out. And there’s no blood left in the turnip.

I am not asking for a handout...I just want to work, have an income until this pandemic stuff is over. Then I can re-open my business and get back to doing what I am passionate about. 2019 rocked! I was getting ready to hire!

To FReepers who I am sure will shame me. F-off! Small businesses all over the country are holding on by a shoestring right now, some already shutdown. On one hand you acknowledge the bloodbath; on the other your shouting at them for be bad business managers. Hello!!! My business niche has weathered several recessions quite well.

Covid shutdowns, fear, fear mongering is killing it. Lack of therapeutics in the marketplace. Saving treatments for only the most sick? Gee if they started them earlier maybe the hospitals wouldn’t be overrun? Idiots all of them!

About 10:30pm - 11:00pm all kinds of tweets where people were asking when do they get the $2,000 checks.

They saw the results and projection - and want their money.

This has been a very successful war on the middle class and I fear it will get worse. The sight of McConnell screaming about “socialism for the rich” while pushing a bill that gave tens of billions overseas and $600 to our own people was ridiculous when our people like you are suffering. A lot of the posters here simply do not realize that in order to run this country, we have to: 1) take care of our own people first and foremost; and 2) stop crazed, needless interventions in foreign countries. Otherwise there is little motivation for much of the Trump base to vote.

Damn. Same as my story. Went from a decent 6-figure job and a good sideline company, was for the first In my life approaching $150k a year.

Burnt threw the last of my savings in December. Not getting a stimulus check as my wife has a ITIN instead of an SSN - didn’t get one in April either. Got illegally evicted in April. Car blew an engine in June. No one extending car loans at decent rates for someone with no employment. FICO score crashed from 760 to 525 after 2 judgements (I was evicted - that is already in the Freeper archives - and I didn’t pay off the car that blew an engine in June) in August. Now in the national eviction blacklist. Fled the country after sending out thousands of resumes and getting nowhere in the totally Indian-dominated IT sector for any job except minimum-wage manual labor starter work. My reserves (I paid my car payment and house payment in the Philippines until December before I left). Probably can’t return to the US and even survive. Got a part-time online teaching gig in July (paid through Australia, so it’s garnishment-proof). Started a new job in Singapore this week, also garnishment-proof.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I suspect most FREEPERS are wealthy probably from inheritance and born into it. Many regular Americans were not and having a hell of a time. I hope things look up.

I’m not going to shame you. I double my contributions to charity early last year (from about 10% of my income to about 20%), because people were hurting unnecessarily due to all the government malfeasance. It’s also why Mitch had a tin ear with his “socialism for the rich” blather.

(Really, doesn’t all socialism benefit a wealthy few, anyhow?)

I scaled it back to 15% after the election, in the hopes a recovering economy under Trump could pick up the slack. Now after January 20, I’m scaling it back to 10% - what the Lord wants from me, at least - since lots of people seem to prefer a big, paternalistic government*, even though such is ruining your life and many other lives.

So, in summary, I have no problem with you and lots of other people getting $2000 checks. It’s only the beginning of paying you back.

*Yes, I’m aware there was lots of fraud, but there are still lots of people who prefer to have distant morons running their lives.

Same thing happened to me. I’m disabled & can only work part time. I still couldn’t make ends meet but I survived. I was laid off last July & I am sinking fast-every way possible.
Will 2000$ help? Sure.Do I feel guilty for taking it? Yes. But for the love of God OPEN UP BUSINESSES SO I CAN GET A FUC%ING JOB !! I’m too old for this shit!
And to the FReepers who would tell me I made bad choices or want to be poor...F U C YOU.
