President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak Wednesday at a “Save America” rally in Washington, D.C., to protest election results.
Thousands of MAGA supporters are expected to attend the rally in a last-ditch attempt to keep Trump in the Oval Office. The rally, which will occur in a 52-acre park south of the White House, will be the first rally-style event Trump will attend since his electoral defeat in November.
On Sunday, Trump retweeted an announcement of the “March for Trump” protest and confirmed his attendance with the caption: “I will be there. Historic day!”
The protests will take place during the same time that the Electoral College officially certifies President-elect Joe Biden’s win in Congress, marking the last step required before Inauguration Day on Jan. 20.
City leaders and local authorities are bracing for potential violence after the Proud Boys, a far-right, neo-fascist organization, said they would be forgoing their traditional black and yellow uniform when they attend the rally, and instead wear all-black.
“The Proud Boys will turn out in record numbers on Jan 6th but, this time, with a twist,” Enrique Tarrio, the group’s chairman, wrote on Parler. “We will be incognito and we will spread across downtown D.C. in smaller teams.”
Joe Biggs, an organizer for the male-only and allegedly racist group, confirmed the plans on his Parler account and said the event would be “epic."
