I have always had a soft spot for that song. I like it...always have.

“...running like a watercolor in the rain...”

I love playing bass along with this one and do often as it is good practice. Plenty of interesting chord movement and though it’s in the key of G, that chord is barely used in the tune.

This has been and will always be my favorite musical compilation. My fav track is “One Stage Before”.

You mean to tell me you forgot two blockbuster hits in 1976? Try

Starland Vocal Band’s tune called
“Afternoon Delight”
and

KC & the Sunshine Band’s “Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake Shake, Shake your Booty”

Hey didn’t know Alan Parsons produced this. I work with Alan’s lead singer occasionally, he’s a studio engineer/producer (PJ. Olsson).

One of my favorite albums...from LP to cassette tape to CD to MicroSD.

Thank you. Certainly one of my all time favorites. Mine is on a red label Janus Records. Time Passages is also a great track by him.

Again, Thanks for the article.

PJ engineered with Alan on the remake of ‘Sirius / Eye In The Sky’ that won a Grammy I think two years ago (time flies). He’s a blast in the studio.

The song may have come out in 1976, but the actual Year of the Cat ended on January 30 of that year. I was born in a different Year of the Cat.

In Roads to Moscow (1974) Stewart tells the story of a Soviet soldier who fights his way through WWII only to be arrested at the end of the war and sent to the Gulag.

Feminine music, and not in a good way.

Sorry.

The band Chicago, during the Peter Cetera era, marked the beginning of the end of Western civilization.

Finally, someone who loves Al Stewart's music as much as I ... I have everything that he has ever recorded.

Al Stewart would be my choice for a male-solo discography collection if I were stranded on a desert island and could only take one discography collection with me.

The Moody Blues would be my discography collection selection for a group.

Agree that song never gets old - great lyrics, visuals - and probably the best song of that year, (rest of album was just OK).

But I would have to say both Steely Dan's "Royal Scam" and Dylan's "Desire" albums had more listenability as whole pieces of work.

1976 was also the year I graduated high school and we had The Ohio Players perform for Senior Night - not bad for a bunch of Florida hicks.

I love both “Year of the Cat” and “Time Passages”, two great albums. Good to listen to late at night, when it’s quiet.

Of course 1976 was the year of Boston’s first album — 17 million copies sold. An amazing album. I’ll never forget hearing it through an acquaintance’s JBL L100’s, with a 100 or 125 watt Pioneer receiver, one of the most powerful available at the time. Blew us away.

Two more good ones from 1976 were Gist of the Gemini by Gino Vanelli and Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. In addition to “Year of Cat,” I think I heard “Love of My Life” and “Lowdown” about a million times on the radio.

1976 - Warren Zevon’s self titled album, best album of the year IMO. ‘Hasten Down The Wind’, ‘Carmelita’, ‘Mohammed’s Radio’, ‘I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead’, just a few of the excellent songs on that LP.
