I’m originally from MI and there are still some places there that you can still get turtle soup. Frog legs as well. I’ve never been partial to either.

Good for you, but I will never know. I don’t eat catfish either.

Along the same lines, why have Americans stopped eating jellyfish?

Hmmm?

Make python the next craze in culinary arts, and you’ll solve the problem in the Everglades.

Ahh yes,
baked ever so lightly in a 125 degree senate chamber,
the turtle must be rotated often (he’ll sometimes change positions all by himself) and basted lavishly with eau de swamp.
Don’t try adding a Donald topping or the turtle will squirm right out of the pan.Since there’s no likelihood of finding red meat, the soup will have to suffice.

I watched a video on how to butcher a snapping turtle. After cutting it’s head off, all body parts moves for awhile. The heart was still beating several minutes after decapitation and dismemberment. I’d eat it if I was starving, but only if starving.

“I don’t eat catfish either”

I hear you, I don’t need nor eat any scavenger meat.

Around here it was still pretty popular into the ‘70s but the only time you could reliably get it was at the sportsmans clubs. Fried turtle, with cole slaw, mashed potatoes and knee caps (little dented donut things with a glob of sweetened whipped cream on top).

Rurals still eat it here. Ive made turtle soup for my kids a half dozen times or so.

The fact is that most people have no cooking skills and the average palate has so degenerated that Mexican is now eaten voluntarily.

Many people now have grown up zapping skinless hot dogs and chicken nuggets and the only time they warm up the oven is for a frozen pizza.

Had some forty or so years ago when I was a kid. An uncle had caught a snapper while fishing. I really don’t remember much of the flavor.
