I was at a local zoo today.
They had a display up showing how much water the average American uses compared to the average African.
They had a gallon jug hanging next to a 150-gallon barrel. They were suspended from a rope to give you an idea of the difference in mass between the two.
It got me thinking.
How many African villages could have been set up with running water and electricity had Zuckerman put half a billion dollars into doing that rather than nullifying the vote of legitimate US voters?
Does anyone have any ideas on this topic?
They could ask Haiti...
I know a guy from our church that went to help Haiti with water collection systems. From roofs I think. He said the same thing - most of the supplies were pilfered before they could get them installed.
IIRC, they solved that problem by getting locals to do the work - but they were only paid for each system that they installed. Of course they were paid well for their labor and the completion, which kept them from selling the parts - or allowing the parts to be stolen.
Interesting how sometimes do-gooding “capitalists” forget what got them wealthy in the first place.
Water:
Every media outlet is yammering about “Washing your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds multiple times a day.
I live rural-—My well puts out a bit over 5 gallons a minute-—20 quarts. 20 seconds is 1/3 of a minute. That 20 seconds of washing your hands takes 6.6666 quarts or 1 2/3 gallons of water.
How many times a day is enough to make all the Chicken Littles happy???
How many gallons of water are used to make the media happy???
I have not changed my hand washing habits a smidgeon. Neither have my neighbors. None of us have any symptoms. NONE.
Next -—they will be complaining that we used TOO much water.
That's not the operative question.
The operative question is how many billions of dollars would you have to apply to the problem before half a billion could sneak its way past the corruption and ineptitude of the despotic government and wend its way down to the people who actually need it.
“I was at a local zoo today. They had a display up showing how much water the average American uses compared to the average African. ... Does anyone have any ideas on this topic?”
My first thought is what business is it of the F’in Zoo how much water Americans use vs Africans? Is American water use depriving Africans of water? How much water a day does the Zoo use per person? Is it more than a gallon a day? If so, go F yourself. Second, is the goal here to shame Americans to use less water or to shame us into helping Africans get better access to water so that they can use more? Either way it’s also none of the zoo’s business so they can go F themselves again.
I tried to frame this in a way so that most people would not look at this as actually trying answer the question, but to put Zucks contribution in perspective in a way that would help non-conservative people see the insanity of a tech billionaire using that much money to impact an election.
But I learned a lot from this thread so thank you for your contributions.
Excellent observations which I have bookmarked.
