Took a few seconds to get the ‘seemingly obvious’ out of the way, the author popped right in place and it was like sliding down the razor blade of life.....

Old saying in Navy (well probably life in general)

The two best ships one ever served on was the one you just came from and the one you are going to.....

LOL. Ok I have a degree in EE and I minored in math. I write code in three software languages for a living. I just don't get this. There must be some trick to this...

The random key Nazi Enigma Code was almost impossible to break. If there are random offsets for each letter then this cannot be solved quickly if at all.

Huh? But it was broken. Military messages have a standard format so that was a big hint right there.

PNLP could be ELSE, HIGH, or a more common word, especially in the presence of PNH, should be a big help to you.

There are several sites out there to help to decipher cryptograms.

There’s another engineer on here who claims can just read these right off in seconds. Don’t know how he does it.

I have a feeling you would get good at these with a modicum of work.

Have you seen the latest claim that the Zodiac 340 was cracked? It’s a fairly convincing - although I and many others thought that the same key that decrypted the Z340 would also decrypt the Z13 and maybe the Z32.

But it didn’t.

Looks like a song line from Little Richard’s “Tutti Frutti”, aka “gonna rip it up tonight”.

I could be wrong but who would know?

Started with the little words, two, nine and thirteen.

About the quote, does one do it in the morning or at the end of the day? Considering author lived in the last century, I’d rather pick one of his 24 hours.

I’m mesmerized. What fun!
My dog would react the same way...and then she’d try to chomp at the water. There would be no pulling her away.

Tried this for first time. Took me about ten minutes to solve.

Consonant and vowel patterns along with smaller words helped flesh out most of the larger words fairly quickly.

Gosh, are we flashing creds here? I may have leaned a little on a BS degree (Summa Cum Laude) and thirty years work experience at some point in the process of solving it — without a cipher.

Look forward to the next one.

Man, I blazed through that one! I recognized the ABCA pattern in the 6th word, and that gave me the 5th word, and that gave me the author (a favorite of mine) and zoom ZOOM zoom.

There is a small challenge to solving these. This kind of cipher has appeared in newspapers for decades, and a lot of people, myself included, enjoy the challenge, and the quotes are usually somewhat amusing.

FYI, this is a simple monoalphabetic cipher with the restriction that no letter can substitute for itself (a cryptological weakness). It’s like a crossword puzzle or anagram, not a major intellectual challenge, but fun for some people, but not other people’s cup of tea. Enjoy or ignore. If you aren’t interested leave us alone.

Thank you.
