The year of the coronavirus was a major disaster for professional sports as every league suffered ratings declines, and lost billions in revenue in 2020.
TV viewership was not off by just a little, either. It was off an average of 50 percent over last year’s numbers. Even though many Americans were stuck at home as their jobs and cities shut down, TV viewership for sports still cratered.
According to Front Office Sports, one of golf’s big games, the U.S. Open, lost 56 percent of its viewers over 2019. Basketball suffered greatly, as well. The NBA finals were down 49 percent over last year. Tennis’ Open also cratered, losing 45 percent over 2019’s games. But the worst of all was Hockey’s Stanley Cup. The NHL’s big game lost a whopping sixty percent over the 2019 championship series.
Thus far the NFL is also cratering, being down at least seven percent over last year. It has been so consistently bad this year that advertisers are starting to rise up to demand concessions for their high advertising spending since viewership has been falling each week.

Wow!
Golf is the least “woke” of all sports, even less than NASCAR or the NHL. Yet viewership declined here also. despite little or any offense to conservative sensibilities.
Is that a good WOW or a bad WOW? Just askin’.
Good! I could not find adequate words to express what that picture says to me. I still can’t.
2021
no kidding...just set up the Wii....

THANK YOU. Feel free to share it. We’re about to lose the country thousands have given their lives to TRY to save.

Younger generations have more options to be entertained. A lot of stuff on YouTube. Professional sports will never be that popular on tv again. ESPN will still be around but it will be 1/10 of what it used to be.

“Makes my heart glad. Happy New Year!”
We are on the very same page in the very same book.
What does pro sports give to this world besides over paid narcissists who think they are important?
Do these overpaid morons playing kids games save lives like doctors and nurses do?
Do they teach our children the necessary skills to succeed in this world?
Do you know what 2020 has proven?
Professional sports participants contribute not one single necessary thing to our culture or our society.
AND
We can easily do without them.
2020 has proven that we can live without all of them and do just fine.
Re: 31 - I would think they will have to. There’s no way that they could travel cross border. Look at what the Blue Jays did in baseball - they played in Buffalo!
I’m thinking there will be league contraction discussions at least in Canada, as teams simply won’t be able to remain viable after this 20-21 season playing away from their home arenas.
The Raptors are playing in Tampa for the start of their season. My guess is that they won’t play one game in Toronto this season.

I think you meant “wildly overrated and over priced bread and circuses “ 😁
We have a newbie on board.
I’m thinking of the Super Nintendo or Playstation 1 era.
Right now, I’m playing Dragon Quest IV and I will be playing the Secret of Mana afterwards. I’ve had that on my tablet for a few years and haven’t done anything with it, so I will get it out of the way.
hope it continues til they all need jobs during the regular season. I. years past qi was a. moderate baseball fan and a huge football fan. I had just started watching a few football games last year after the kneeling debacle. I can proudly say I have not watched one pitch or snap this year. And you know what? I don’t miss it
