That’s what I was going to say. A diner in a town near here that caters to vets and cops has spam on the menu and folks love it. Spam and sunny-side eggs is magnificent for breakfast or lunch.
I once visited Hawaii, where the SPAM section of the supermarket had about 10 different flavors - chipotle, hickory, jalapeño, cheese, etc… It was amazing.
I can’t figure out why for the life of me they don’t sell these varieties on the Mainland.
You couldn’t find it on the shelves about six months ago.
Have always loved SPAM. This is urban myth built up by other food competitors. Fried is best.
Not derided by me! I’ve known it from my youth. In a tip of the hat to modern sophistication, I put my fried spam and American cheese on white sandwiches into the panini maker
Spam was a regular feature for meals when I was growing up in the 1950s and 60s. My wife still buys it from time to time to have for a quick fix meal. I remember buying it from the commissary during my tours in Germany and taking it to the field with me as a backup to C-rations. I was a forward observer, thus often away from my artillery battery’s location where we could get hot chow. And we had our sterno stove to heat it up and hot water for coffee.
My boys, for two. I got ready for Armageddon back in the Carter days and accumulated/hoarded a TON of Spam. One year we took a month-long vacation RVing across the nation when Reagan got in.
I figured that was a great time to use up the Spam, so we had it EVERY DAY. By Week Two, the boys started crying (they were young) when they saw mom break out the can.
To this day, neither of them can stand the stuff. I love it, the original that is. By accident we bought some that were made from turkey. Absolute crap. Looked like Spam but the flavor was WAY off.
