MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The theater industry is celebrating after congressional leaders announced that a major funding package known as the "Save Our Stages Act" would be included in the stimulus bill expected to be approved on Monday.
For months, industry leaders and local elected officials have clamored for a federal bailout of performing arts venues, which face an existential crisis as the coronavirus pandemic has shut down nearly all live events since the spring.
On Sunday, Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi confirmed that the agreement with congressional Republicans included $15 billion in funding for live venues, independent movie theaters and cultural institutions.

Dear Well-Paid Vaccinated Medical Workers:
We invite you to attend a special presentation of...
“Performing arts” do not repair toilet systems, rebuild auto engines, nor build frames for houses. They do not run into burning structures to retrieve trapped humans. They do not defend our nation’s security or defend it in time of war.
Lastly, they do not drive the foul-smelling garbage trucks.
They ‘need’ none of my tax money!
When you rob Peter to pay Paul you can rely on Paul’s support.
Because the rich leftists can’t bear to lose their fancy Broadway shows that bash the Right and promote the destruction of western values.
Meanwhile, more conservative small businesses, their owners and employees are ruined. But at least they can still go to Broadway, and be reassured that they deserve their fate.
Preserving venues for the arts is a worthy cause I support.
