Well, it definitely appears to be meat of some sort.
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas on Thursday tweeted a photo of his family's holiday meal with the caption, "Brisket family tradition."
As Cornyn is the senior senator from Texas, it's no surprise that the tweet set off a big reaction. Brisket's big business in this state, and the meat seen in Cornyn's photo looks a far cry from the kind you'd find in the pit at spots like Franklin and Snow's.
For one thing, Cornyn's looks pretty dry. For another, the red stuff on the top — barbecue sauce, you'd imagine — has a color and texture that looks like spaghetti sauce left out too long.

Looks like pork to me - something near and dear to RINO BUNDLERS like Cornyn.
There are no bones in that photo, just weird light bouncing off the unsauced spots on the rather smooth top surface of the brisket slices, which are cut across the grain. Obviously not ribs, I know ribs.
The brisket does look really dry. Maybe it is a guava paste based sauce rather than tomato.
He blamed his wife for that atrocity? What a weasel.
the tweet was praise but someone responded that he was blaming her and not taking credit for that mess
Strangest brisket I ever saw. But it’s his house, he can have it however he likes I guess
That’s what I thought. Those are ribs.
Lord I miss my Dad’s brisket.
If you follow this thread, you will see what briskit is supposed to look like.

More of a KC-style rub type on my brisket, myself...
Ina Garten has a brisket recipe she cooks in tomato juice - maybe it’s that kind of situation.
He should be thrown out of TX.
Nope. It is sliced brisket with sauce.
I don’t know about the tenderness of the meat..... it might pass....
The red sauce, however....?
Nope. Nyet. It looks more like the red topping that goes on meatloaf.
Well, maybe not that, either. I make a really mean meatloaf and my topping sauce at the end is a bit darker.
Might be just a really bad picture. :(
“LORD HAVE MERCY WHAT happened to that Brisket ?!?!?”
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
“Paw, I think them city slickers done killed that brisket!”
You really need to visit Texas to understand how seriously they take their brisket.....
The state’s Senator just committed sacrilege.......
Just a fun story.....
A fixture since 1882, Southside is the oldest BBQ joint in Texas. We offer authentic Central Texas BBQ, slow-smoked over real Texas post oak wood.
Wow, it's been 20+ years since I've been there !!! I can still hear the "SNAP" of the Casing when Ya bite into it !!!
After moving to NC (I can't stand the vinegar based sauce over here and all they have is Pulled Pork Butt) I got lucky and Big Tiny's BBQ opened up just about 2 miles away in Downtown Mooresville. So I can get a fix of Real Texas BBQ 7 day's a week. I will add that Tiny's makes some excellent Sides especially the Sweet Tater Casserole.
The only other place I found Smoked Brisket over here served a Brisket Plate that had 3 thin slices of oven smoked Brisket and choice of sides, I went with Coleslaw and Tater Salad and the TS was served on the WARM plate! I had to ask for Pickles & Onion. The Server looked at Me funny and said She'd be right back. A few minutes later She returns with a small bowl with HEATED Dill Pickles & Onion Slices !!! I have not been back to the place. And the Brisket Plate sold for $12.95.
Take a closer look (I had to look twice, closely) Cornfedcowboy and You can see the Bones, also at the Top of the Ribs the "Knuckle" as I will call it, the Cartilage is visible and the Grain of the Meat matches Ribs.
Dang it now I've got to hit Big Tiny's later in the day.
Seymour is a town bypassed by the interstate and almost no one even in Texas knows where it is. Ballinger, TX has a Carnegie Library in it, no lie. Encinal is an interesting place full of Fed boys. Calvert, TX is just about the armpit of Texas. Lots of drug dealers there, almost all black school with a radical superintendent and staff. There are some REALLY big houses/estates in the Round Top, Texas area and a lot of VERY rich people live there. Hindus are buying up houses and property in Fort Worth, TX so fast it would make your head spin. That would explain the Hindu temple just south of West Freeway off of I-30 .
Journalists in Texas are not doing their job to report on so many feature stories I could tell you about, so, yeah, I know Texas and that is the tip of the iceberg. What's your next question?
Grew up in San Antonio and my Dad (after a long private sector career) was a professor at a UT extension campus...
My oldest daughter currently lives outside of Houston.....
LOL, Don’t ‘dis the importance of Texas Brisket!
