Well, it definitely appears to be meat of some sort.
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas on Thursday tweeted a photo of his family's holiday meal with the caption, "Brisket family tradition."
As Cornyn is the senior senator from Texas, it's no surprise that the tweet set off a big reaction. Brisket's big business in this state, and the meat seen in Cornyn's photo looks a far cry from the kind you'd find in the pit at spots like Franklin and Snow's.
For one thing, Cornyn's looks pretty dry. For another, the red stuff on the top — barbecue sauce, you'd imagine — has a color and texture that looks like spaghetti sauce left out too long.

Very true. Years ago, back in the 1970s, I worked in graphic arts and I remember shooting photos of hamburgers for a large chain. The photos were used in ads, and the burgers were sprayed with clear lacquer to make them shine and hold up under hot photo lamps. Later the photos underwent heavy airbrushing (decades before Photoshop) to add highlights and cleanup the background.
I smoke various kinds of meat. I have smoked brisket. That looks nothing like what I done, or have ever gotten at a bar-b-que place. Yuck is right.
Ain’t got no bark
No bark, but plenty of congealed spaghetti sauce.
No its not. Take it from a former Texas brisket cooker, that sh!t looks more like prime rib then it does brisket. You can see the edges where its cooked. Just goes to show Cornyn isn’t a real republican or Texan for that matter!
Maybe that is just the RINO versus of Brisket.
Could be BBQ beef ribs.
That’s just wrong.
I don’t care what I eat.
Here be Brisket.
‘pork’
...Cornyn knows pork
Must be DC Swamp style —posers.
When I was growing up, my mother used to make us “pizza” by toasting English muffins and topping them with tomato sauce out of a can and a slice of American cheese.
Talk about child abuse!
dang..why did it take so long for someone to come up with that...because yeah...that is perfect.
That GOP poser loves pork.
