As snow piles up in yards and parks across the United States this winter, many children will be hitting their neighborhood hills to sled on their days away from school.
Common injuries centered around the time-honored winter activity, however, have led some cities in the Midwest to put the brakes on sledding.

The rain from last night took care of the snow here in PA. I thought we were going to have a white Christmas. So much for that.
—————-
Plenty here in Western Pa. Most snow in Pittsburgh, Christmas Day, in 85yrs.
And besides, it’s racist.
Oh no... Banning snow sledding. Idiots...
Good powder, perfect for sledding and skiing.
I’m in Northampton County. Eastern PA.
Your gov loves you.
Amazing we survive what would have killed us today...
I broke my arm at the age of 14 while sledding. Hit a jump on the way down, sled went out from under me, I put my arm down to break my fall, and instead broke my arm.
My brother in law sent me picks of Ohio this morning. He said it was bone chilling 15 degrees and they have snow everywhere.
I sent him a pic of bright and sunny Arizona with 52 degree temps and cobalt blue skies! He never responded back! ☺
Even today at 41 I love to pop bubble wrap.

They said never put your arms out to break your fall when snowboarding, you’ll break your wrists.
I heeded this when I caught an edge and ended up un my head the board spinning like a helicopter..
Kid’s thought I invented a new move and applauded.
I said “It hurts..”
Younger people in this country nowadays are fragile. A few bumps and bruises, emotional, spiritual and mental as well as physical along life’s path will make you tougher and more prepared...not to mention more careful. Glad I grew up when I did and was raised the way I was.
Wish I had been aware of that advice when I was 14.
My most favorite sled run was starting at the top of the hill by my house. Asphalt road. Sled down it, pick up speed, jump the curb (We built a ramp) then sledding down this trail through the woods ending at the frozen creek which 30 feet later turned into the big creek. Made it all the way maybe twice. Better then a roller coaster. Flexable flyer. Long trek back.
Your description sounds like a toboggan. You could put quite a few people on one of those.
My favorite was a flying saucer. They made them from aluminum in those days and they’d last for years! They would prep the way for a sledding track. The wood sleds with rails on the bottom would sink in the snow and go nowhere. But if you spend some time with the saucer first, then the wooden sleds worked ok.
Ive heard a lot of talk about using car lids but those things were way too heavy for kids to drag uphill. Saucers gave the same kind of ride and were light weight.
It wasn’t rocket science figuring out if the lake ice was ready. 2 weeks of 20 degrees or less is all it took for the lake to frow 2 feet or more ice depth. The state police would go out and check for us and make a public announcement, but when you grow up in the frozen north, you learn to tell these things at a fairly early age. We all knew what cold and wet felt like and none of us wanted to get trapped under the ice. We sure as hell didn’t want our parents to restrict our fun so staying safe was crucial to retaing our freedom.

“When most of the ruling class are lawyers you have unrestricted lawsuits.”
EXACTLY. Lawfare. Another tactic in the TOTALITARIAN’S arsenal.
Where’s MAPD...Mother’s Against Phone Drivers? Notice the craziness on the freeways (and surface streets) lately?
