As snow piles up in yards and parks across the United States this winter, many children will be hitting their neighborhood hills to sled on their days away from school.
Common injuries centered around the time-honored winter activity, however, have led some cities in the Midwest to put the brakes on sledding.

Verboten!
The pussification of America continues.
Also, snow is natural and sledding/skiing on it destroys the environment.
We used to go down a hill right onto a frozen lake.
Good times.
Some comparing this year to 1969.
Yeah I get that...it was your decision...this nanny state stuff however....
It rained so hard last night here on The Jersey Shore I thought my little house was going to float away.
"The cities began taking action against sledding after some high-profile lawsuits involving sledding accidents were filed in recent years. Some have cost the cities millions of dollars in settlements, including cases against Omaha, Neb., and Sioux City, Iowa..."
when i was a kid the FD used to hose down the village park till it had three or four inches of ice to skate on, and to crack the whip... that was a blast but a few kids always got bumps and bruises or worse, but it took lawyers in the mid 70s to finally make them stop doing it
And don’t forget large bubble wrap; I asked the boss where should I put all this bubble wrap from shipping and he said just pop it in the corner - four hours later I was finished.
OMG! My Mom bought 2 of those from my kindergarten.
It was always a rough ride. Downhill in barrels, probably get locked up by some Karen Cop today.
If you can dodge a lawn dart, sledding should be a cinch.
Peach
What a pussy era we’re living in!
We had some unpaved backroads up in the hills.
They would get really packed down and frozen.
Sled parties - bonfire at the bottom, cars or pickups to take sledders back uphill about 3 miles. Fast, steep, any open dirt patch was steered toward, to slow you down!
Our ponds in Texas would occasionally freeze before the advent of globull warming. We used to ride our bikes on them. We would always make our big dogs go out on it first to make sure it would hold us. The only hills that were steep enough were the embankments along the interstate overpasses. Good times. One kid that was in my 4-H group fell through the ice a couple miles down the road and drowned.
Actually, proximity to public serpents or living in an area with a goobermint is way more dangerous than sleds. Enact a law that any poor wretch living with that curse must have elbow and knee pads (and face mask) at all times.
They should ban bicycles and skateboards due to the injuries centered around those devices.
They should eff off!
It was long (for me at the time), had rounded runners and a rounded front...........It was the fastest on the back road hills when the road was packed down and not sanded........
On rare occasions my step dad would tie the sled to the back of his truck and tow me on that road........
As a side note, I think that sled was made around 1956
