NUTS!!
Watch Battleground 1949....great war film ...probably one of the first unshaven complaining GI movie
About 8 years ago, I met several Americans vets who fought during the Battle of Bastogne. One was an artillery officer, one was an infantry man, and one was a B-17 pilot who flew airdrop and bombing support missions.
Amazing men. Heroes.
I see his YouTube videos all the time. You learn lots of little tidbits that you’ve never heard of before.
History channel is running Band of Brothers all day.
And let us not forget that there were more GIs fighting in the Battle of the Bulge in addition to those defending Bastogne. Those in Hotton, Malmedy, Stoumont, LaGleize, Marche, Manhay, all on the North Shoulder and the Western Edge of the Bulge.
You’re right. It was a big battle and 20,000 Americans died.
Thanks for that link,
James whitmore was the actor I believe.Reminded me of Willie and Joe for sure.
Most welcome Bigg Red.
Yes Whitmore was so perfect I think he got an oscar for it and great part by a young Ricardo montalban
I worked with many of these people... and I grew up with a German Infantryman, an American Ranger who was my Asst Scoutmaster. The German guy fought in Spain, Moscow, and back to Berlin; he found two Russian tanks in Nov 43,, went back to the rear and got two antitank shells and returned to take out one tank but by quirk of war a Russian solider popped up and took the first round in the chest so he only got one week pass back to Berlin on leave instead of two, his motivation for this dangerous attack was a one week pass for killing a tank. My scout master was a D Day guy who helped take out several major fortified positions. He literally made all of us scouts mini rangers which severed me well in the Army. Another guy, a British Paratrooper was my work friend Ben Delahunt who collaborated on the of a Bridge Too Far and scene in movie about the man who ran out to retrieve an air drop container that only had Red Berets was a true story of his best friend.
I have been to almost every battle field from the beaches on Day to Berlin.
