I wanted to thank you all for your prayers.
She was scheduled for a Whipple Surgery. This surgery completely re-routed her digestive system. They found a modest sized tumor, but not spread to her lymph nodes.
ONLY 15% of patients can get the Whipple. They have the best chance of survival. And at that...the 5 year goes up to 25%. Still pretty bleak.
Six months of chemo followed. On Palm Sunday night--just after the lock down, she was rushed into a huge, empty ER because the chemo caused her colon to twist and die. I was allowed to go in and stay with her until she went up to surgery at 9PM that night. 35% mortality rate on THAT surgery alone. The time I spent in my truck, in the hospital parking lot begging God to save her was the darkest moment is my life.
Then it was home, locked down for another six months.
Several of you kept us in your prayers.
October comes and she goes back in for a ileostemy reversal. Another week in the hospitals. But its was a success. No more bag and she starts to put on weight.
This brings us to this week. The first news was that her Cancer Blood factor was barely detectable. The second good news was her scan came back clear; No Evidence of Disease.
In our teleconference with the Oncologist he actually said, "If it were coming back, this is when we would see it. I think we a probably in the clear."
A recent study indicates that with no "factor" in her blood, and a clean scan puts her in the cohort where it is highly likely she will exceed 77 months, and people in her position in the latest research at STILL alive after that time frame.
That puts her into a "normal" life span. We know the risk never goes completely away. But this is as good as any of us gets.
We are not "special." There is no medical reason why she responded well to her treatment and dodged ALL of these bullets when ALMOST everyone else dies.
By all research and anecdotal evidence, she should be dead. This "should" have been my worst Christmas ever.
Instead, I have my wife. She just hit her target weight after dropping to under 100 pounds. She is back at work. She is happy.
And I have never been so grateful in my life.
And....this week, we found out we are having a grandson. This will be the first boy on my side of the family since 1960.
This is the best week of my life. And it is all because of the power of prayer, you all, and Jesus.
Thank you everyone for your prayers. I praise the Lord. I thought this community would appreciate my testimony.
Ha! My “Our Father” worked! Merry Christmas!

That is fantastic news! God is so very good and He wants you to trust and believe in Him. Romans 2 says His goodness leads us to repentance.

PRAYERS for your Wonderful wife VLT.
My best bud just got diagnosed with TWO cancers this week, prostate and blood plasma cancer (myeloma??) then on top of it he shattered his leg bone two days ago.
THESE has been extremely trying times.
I am praying to god non-stop for all of us.
What a year...
You brought tears to my eyes. I am sorry your wife, and you have had to go through so much, but praise God, that she has recovered, and your lives have returned to normal. My youngest son had surgery in April 2019 for cancerous polyps. They did two resections and thankfully he didn’t need to have a colostomy. Six months of chemo followed, and a year on, he is cancer free. May you have a blessed Christmas, and a very happy, and healthy New Year.
I’ve followed you on Free Republic for awhile now, mostly because of your interesting name. From reading your posts, I’m guessing you live in western Mass. I live in New Hampshire.
Your post is full of good news. A miraculous recovery on your wife’s part, she’s even back to work, and a grandson added to the family. You are really blessed.
MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄🎁
BTW , we attended our nephew’s graduation at Norwich. I don’t remember the exact year, but Howard Dean was the commencement speaker.
Very glad to hear it! Best to you and your wife.
This is AWESOME! Merry Christmas Vermont Lt!
Amen, brother! Merry Christmas!

He has just started my Christmas Eve perfectly with your wife’s amazing testimony. Thank you so much for sharing and giving glory to God.
