The Save Our Stages Act — sponsored by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) in the Senate, Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) and Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX) in the House and championed by Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) with 230 bipartisan cosponsors in Congress — passed late Monday night as part of the government’s larger COVID-19 Relief Bill.

“This legislation is a much-needed lifeline for so many in the music industry who have faced loss and uncertainty for far too long through no fault of their own. We are very grateful for the extension of vital CARES Act benefits including Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, and the inclusion of the Save Our Stages Act, which will make billions of dollars in grants available to venues and live entertainment workers who have been unable to do their jobs for months. We are also thrilled by the inclusion of a dedicated $100 weekly benefit for mixed earners.

Cornyn's Bailout:

Under the federal plan venue operators, promoters, music managers and talent agencies can apply for non-repayable, two-part grants that cover as much 45% of a venue’s 2019 revenue, capped at $10 million in the first round, followed by a supplemental grant in spring 2021 valued at 50% of the original grant.

We just contracted for another 100 million Pfizer vacs. We should have everyone vaccinated who wants it by May. Open the concert halls. This Summer will be back to normal despite the efforts of the commie Governors.

A “give them taxpayers’ money” grant. Great. I’m a musician and have been in a dozen “bar bands”. The whole industry/hobby is being decimated. You aughta hear the whining.

But it does speak to how our culture is being decimated by democrat mayors and governors. This will not last. People will act out. First a guy here or there, and then, well, see tag line.

“Learn to code”
“Learn to dig ditch”
“Learn to sack groceries”
“Go back to school”

No more sacred than all of the other professions that have been put on hold for 10 months.

I’m seeing touring concerts return (for several months already) in the outlying areas (nearby towns and cities and neighboring counties).

Asleep at the Wheel went on tour, so did David Allen Coe, Reverend Horton Heat, and others.

But the Ticketmaster/LiveNation owned venues are still shuttered. Why give the billionaires a bailout and let the independent operators flounder?

Are you one of the people who said the summer would be normal despite the commie efforts?

And then the Fall would be normal despite the commie efforts?

And then the Winter would be normal despite the commie efforts?

You’ve already skipped the Spring.

So wow, we really showed them :)

Only let them destroy our worlds for a year and a half over a fairly innocuous virus.

IF things are indeed up and running by the summer.

What? What does that have to do with anything? It isn’t one or the other. They are giving away billions to foreigners whether they give free handouts to musicians or not.

Nope, pandemics run for two years, in this case closer to one year plus do to the Trump vaccine. As far as the commie governors, they will always be commie governors, pandemic or not.

Just send out blank checks and let them fill in the amount they want.

Cornyn is just another POS. Always has been. He is an arrogant SOB as well.

Big-name touring acts and their managers/tour operators will benefit from this huge giveaway. What about local musicians?

Why does the government have to subsidize multi-millionaire celebrity musicians and singers?

$10 million grant cap? You have to be kidding.

Think about the HUGE ticket prices these touring scoundrels routinely charge.

How can we feel sorry for fabulously wealthy celebrity musicians and bands?

Why is Cornyn so concerned about bailing out the entertainment industry, an industry which despises him and other Republicans, an industry which donates massive amounts to defeating Republicans? Why is Thom Tillis - a Republican who’s supposed to be representing North Carolina - so concerned about helping Hollywood? WTF is wrong with establishment Republicans?

Cornyn decided to give all of these Hollywood and Broadway people 45% of their 2019 gross revenue as a handout!

It’s not even a loan! It’s a grant!

I will say this: Once the lockdowns end we will see a LOT of pent up demand explode.

The whole industry/hobby is being decimated. You aughta hear the whining.

Do the whiners you hear connect the dots between "why" the industry is being decimated and the people they elect, which in most cases in this and the hospitality industry, is Democrats.

From what I've seen - they don't and I leave the conversation with telling them more people need to connect the dots between the people they elect and hold them responsible for their current situation.

NYC is decimated and yet these morons will elect another Cuomo or DeBlasio but will at the same time whine about their situation, amazing.

Bailouts take time for recovery to begin. But at some point
the USA has to get production back to running full throttle.

Actually unless concert promoters and venues start canceling shows, refunding tickets, and starting with a fresh calendar, the dates are going to be booked up for at least a year in advance.

I have tickets for 2 different concerts that have been twice postponed. These tours are still “on” and will be going around the world.

Now take 1 year+ worth of tours that have to be rescheduled (the Who were already rescheduling 2019 concerts from Roger’s vocal problem). If you don’t already have an agreement with a venue/agency you may find it hard to get a new tour or concert off the ground.
