A U.S. guided-missile destroyer moved through the Taiwan Strait on Saturday, U.S. 7th Fleet said in a statement.

“The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin (DDG-89) conducted a routine Taiwan Strait transit Dec. 19 (local time) in accordance with international law,” the Navy said in a statement. “The ship’s transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the U.S. commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.”

Following Mustin’s move through the strait, Reuters reported that China’s new aircraft carrier on Sunday performed its own transit through the strait. Shandong conducted the transit while heading to train in the South China Sea, the Chinese navy said.

The navigation hacks that where crashing our ships is now repaired (my opinion.) China responds with a carrier following our ships around. This is a sign we’re winning this fight against China even if the media tells you otherwise

I’m sure nuclear attack subs were not far behind.

For the moment but the situation is changing fast. I’m old enough to remember when people claimed that Chinese anti-ship ballistic missiles couldn’t hit US surface vessels. But they most certainly can.

Hopefully we have assets in the straits gathering all the various signatures of the Shandong.....

Anti-ship ballistic missiles are not more likely to hit anything than Anti-ship cruise missiles are. It’s that whole ‘kill chain’ thing.

Its a conventional steam propulsion system. They need a oiler in the vicinity to refuel depending on length of deployment and distance. Also when they increase speed and drag down the boilers, often the stack will give away their intensions.

The Chinese do not have the ability to provide accurate target location data to a missile once it's launched. A carrier will not be in the same location where it was spotted and it takes more than 30 minutes for a missile to get from the launch site to the carrier's last known location. By the time the missile gets to where the carrier group was last seen it will be long gone from there.

Plus we have the tech ability to track where that missile was launched from and send back our own missiles.

The Chinese do not have the ability to provide accurate target location data to a missile once it's launched.

The US deployed missiles with the technology to do so in the 80s. Why don't you think the Chinese are able to now? DoD believes they've tested their missiles against moving ships this year.

carrier will not be in the same location where it was spotted and it takes more than 30 minutes for a missile to get from the launch site to the carrier's last known location.

It doesn't take a ballistic missile 30 minutes to get from China to the Taiwan strait. And an Aircraft Carrier steaming at a whopping 34 miles per hour isn't going to get very far.

By the time the missile gets to where the carrier group was last seen it will be long gone from there.

Foolish, irrational overconfidence
