Thank you for the suggestion. I spend several months in Norway just out of High School (1979) going to a language school and then visiting relatives.

Being a child of the cold war I mentioned to a relative once about having a border with the USSR and how that must be.

“Russia!? They have never been an issue. The Germans though....” Long memories!

(Long memories... 1979 to 1945 is 34 years. 2020 minus 34 is the Iraq War!)

LOL! That’s great! I only watched a few minutes, but when I get more time later today I’ll show it to my wife. She’ll get a kick out of it.

I have not watched Belgravia because I am not subscribed to the service that offers it.

Downton Abbey was an entertaining effort to rehabilitate the image of the Edwardian feudal system.

Gentleman Jack was another effort to — in the words Daniel Patrick Moynihan — define deviancy down.

I agreed to a one week free trial of Epix just to binge watch Belgravia. Canceled after I watched.

Thank you for posting this, I love these British stories and you listed some I haven’’t seen.
I’m another Downton Abby fan but I’m not fond of the homo scenes so I fast forward through them. The character himself is very well done.

Part of the Downton story exposed me to a facet of American history of which I was not aware and that was how the American noveau riche of the 19th century broke into upper class social circles in England and America.

For more of that there is “Million Dollar American Princesses” & “The Buccaneers”.

My fandom of the Victorian period dramas inspired me to do this:

Wallander was good too. It is interesting how the internet/netflix systems direct you to other stuff.

Also “interesting” on how one search on the internet for something will fill your email with spam.

I had a friend that must have had his cell phone listening. He was talking with a neighbor about his neighbor’s lawn mower. “Yeah - this is nice! Maybe I should get something like this.”

Later on that day on his computer his emails and google were filled with lawn mower ads. Except he had never searched on lawn mowers before. The first time he had ever shown an interest was a few minutes before with his neighbor!

Yes! But thought it was brilliant all the same. I think they did a wonderful job of weaving it all together!

Island at War, which was a dramatization of the Nazi Occupation of The Channel Islands, was a good series.

There is a huge huge market for your personal data. It’s collected and analyzed (Who do you think has paid for the new A.I. technology explosion in machine learning!) every time you get on the Internet, use you cell phone, drive your car, tweet, text, etc. your sending out “data” on yourself.

You would not believe how much is collected. It dwarves government collection. Actually its a waste for money for government to collect. They could just be another customer and buy it. I’ve attended several Machine\Deep Learning conferences and heard talks on this and what these “marketing data collectors” want to do is. A big industry driver is the insurance industry mostly car but soon to be property & health. They’ll have the data for your claim report before the cop finishes writing the ticket or the embers of your house cool from your house fire. The health insurance industry wants to use the data\analysis to better assess you as a health risk.

It’s an obvious fact the younger public doesn’t care a squat about privacy. They claim they do if you ask them. However just look at their behavior. The coming Internet-of-Things where every household appliance is attached to the Internet and data collected on will make it even worse.

Might I suggest “Dr Thorne” on Amazon Prime? Julian Fellowes adapted a Trollope novel for the screenplay. Bonnets abound :)

I did a brief search on how to use Western Union to send some emergency money to my daughter the other day. My facebook, youtube and email accounts were filled with spam for money transfers.

I recall some guy using his various friend’s computers as a test when it came to internet searches.

One friend was a chef. A search for “France” came up with menus.

Another friend was a poly-sci guy. “France” came up with the French Revolution.

The internet does not always give you access to “the Truth”. It gives you what you want to hear.
