Interesting article about Monopoly's history and influence. There's even a "Monopoly Socialism" out there now -- how is that played?! And will they issue a "Lockdown Monopoly?"

MONOPOLY was a family board game in our house.

My father was a successful sales manager and he wanted us boys (6) and 2 girls to know how money and the world operated.

MONOPOLY is a GREAT first lesson ... especially when your savvy younger brother learns how to leverage Baltic and Mediterranian into Boardwalk and Park Place

As the Landlord’s Game, Monopoly was originally a propaganda.

Lizzie Magee created it to teach the ills of corporations and the beauties of Georgism.

That Landlord’s Game looks more interesting than Monopoly! They should reissue it, special edition, maybe call it “Ur-Monopoly.”

I was a great young Monopoly player.

Never made the leap to successful financier.

Guess that’s why I’m living in a green house on Vermont Ave instead of a red hotel on Boardwalk :)

Monopoly is a dull-minded closed loop: it is based upon the concept of a zero-sum economy.

Free Market Capitalism is open-ended: allowing people to create more and more wealth. Make a boardgame about that, Hasbro!

Monopoly is a dull-minded closed loop: it is based upon the concept of a zero-sum economy.

Its a growing economy mostly due to the payouts when players pass GO. Do we consider that a salary? or is it a government handout?

A few years ago someone put out a version called “Obamanopoly”. One of the player pieces represented
an Obama cabinet member who didn’t have to pay taxes.

If you were that player you were almost guaranteed
to win.

Thank you, it was a fun read. the overriding theme of board games shifted from morality to unbridled capitalism.

A cousin that was brilliant beyond clever loved the game and usually dominated.
Unbridled capitalism, yes that was him to a T.
