A case in point is the decision by Sanofi Pasteur to no longer use an aborted fetal cell line in producing its polio vaccines, a move recently approved by the FDA.
Sanofi is one of the companies currently developing a COVID-19 vaccine by utilizing “cell lines not connected to unethical procedures and methods.” Inovio Pharmaceuticals and the John Paul II Medical Research Institute are other such companies.
I forgot a little word. It should read
I felt NO pain.
We have been told that while you may no longer get the virus you are still a carrier and can infect people just like before the shot...AND those who have gotten the shot will still be required to wear a mask...
Read today that those who are administering the shots are not required to wear gloves unless there is an open sore...
Seems odd to me that while a vaccine has always taken many years to develop these vaccines were created in just a couple of months...And that is 3 separate companies who created these vaccines within a week or so of each other..
Makes me wonder if these vaccines weren't sitting in the wings somewhere just waiting for the right time to be dispensed...
Thanks for clarifying. The meaning could have been either way. No pain is definitely preferable.
The most common auto correct that is made in my voice activation writing on Freerepublic changes the positive negative quality of a statement. I’m going to start keeping a list of all the different ways this happens. I will add your statement to it. You probably did include the word “no” when you first made your statement.
Then what kind of cells were they? Please provide a source.
Stem cell, an undifferentiated cell that can divide to produce some offspring cells that continue as stem cells and some cells that are destined to differentiate (become specialized). Stem cells are an ongoing source of the differentiated cells that make up the tissues and organs of animals and plants.
Thank you!
And really glad to hear of your vaccine experience. Very good to hear of the relief this brings to you. I can’t imagine the stress everyone in the medical field has been under
You also forget a big word, "abortion". And babies feel pain.
Very nice...hopeful. You're a great role model in a scary time...
I’m quoting the science. You may great as an icu doc but you don’t understand vaccines and how they work
Sorry my friend. Your bias and your opinion as jaded you. I respect you but I do Understand immunology. And you ware flat out wrong on this.
In the making of this vaccine there were no aborted fetal lines. As as been said early testing may have used the cell lines you are talking about. Most pastors have shed their light on the situation. Being a Protestant I understand the faith to be not in news of an intermediary.
And we could always ask the age old Ethical questions about if this confers meaning to a senseless death. Any fetal tissue in early testing was not aborted specifically for this reason. And again in this vaccine there were. No stem cells.
I respect your position but this is a fine of enough line that there are several ethical arguments to be made either way.
I don’t know what the ridiculous flurry of posts is about but I corrected ‘stem’ to ‘cell’ in #30.
The Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines offer the same protection as the smallpox vaccine.
The smallpox vaccine wiped smallpox off the face of the Earth.
Thank you for sharing your experience, my FRiend! I’m glad to know you have the vaccine now, though I must confess some jealousy! Best health to you and your family.
The issue with antibodies is that the cells that produce them (B-cells) essentially work themselves to death producing antibodies. It’s extremely energy-intensive to produce them. If your body didn’t stop producing antibodies to the pathogens it’s exposed to after infection, you’d burn through so much energy you’d have nothing left for basic metabolic processes.
After an infection is beaten, 90% of the B-cells involved in antibody production die. About 10% go dormant and remain as Memory B-cells. Should that same pathogen be encountered again in the future, dendritic cells can trigger T-cells to wake those Memory B-cells and restart antibody production. As long as the pathogen hasn’t changed the surface structure that the antibodies bind to, they’ll still be effective. Based on our experience with SARS-CoV-1 (SARS2003) and MERS-CoV (MERS2012), antibodies for SARS-CoV-2 should be effective for at least 2-3 years.
Unfortunately, when we talk about testing, there’s just the PCR test which demonstrates the presence or absence of SARS-CoV-2 genetic material (typically indicating active infection or recently overcome infection) and serology (antibody) testing, which will detect the presence of antibodies, which are only present until the B-cells give up the ghost.
I am not biased. Nor am I jaded
But thanks for sharing
Our research on campus showed that covid antibodies hang around AT LEAST 6 weeks. The study was done on young healthy students. The study went silent with speculation being that results went all over the place and the students got sent home after Thanksgiving.
The one thing I liked best about Covid was the mask. I can walk into the bong shop downtown without people knowing it is me.
I heard a rumor that front-line workers may get it before the elderly.
I suspect the real reason is Swine Flu Vaccine Syndrome.
Pray, tell me: What does it mean that the vaccine was 52% effective?
