Majority of Southern California nurses refusing the COVID vaccine
Hot Air ^ | 12/16/20 | Jazz Shaw

I’ll confess that I didn’t see this one coming. Much of the cable news programming currently blasting across our screens these days is celebrating the arrival of the first COVID vaccines approved for general distribution. People lining up to be the first in their state to receive it are hailed in the press like rock stars. But out in Southern California, there’s one group of people who are choosing to either delay taking the shot or simply declining entirely. Those are the nurses. CBS Los Angeles is reporting that a recent survey conducted by the UCLS Fielding School of Public Health reports that a full two-thirds of the nurses surveyed either said no or at least… not yet.

A number of local healthcare workers have reservations about the COVID-19 vaccine authorized for emergency use, according to a new survey from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health.

“Two-thirds of the health workers that we surveyed wished to delay vaccination or not get vaccinated,” Dr. Anne Rimoin, the senior author of the study, said Monday.

She said the survey collected data from about 600 workers between mid-September and the end of October.

At least out where I live, healthcare workers are among the first being vaccinated, which kind of makes sense since so many of them are dealing with COVID patients on a daily basis. And at least based on the information being spread around by the media, you would think that these educated individuals would put the most faith in the system that developed and tested these vaccines, right? So what gives with the nurses in California?

A representative for the union covering these nurses was quick to point out that their members are not “anti-vaxxers.” 90% of them reportedly get the flu vaccine every year.

What would nurses know about vaccines? They are not doctors! When my car breaks I always talk to a physics professor not my mechanic!

so people can’t make a valid decision not to take the flu vax,

that in their minds automatically labels you anti-vax

see how they work?

if you don’t agree with them they slap a negative label on you

its so convenient to then turn you into a whipping boy and scapegoat, and whip hatred up against you

that’s real science for you

thats what alinskyites do

so what if they are anti-vaxxers?

so what?

and so what, for example,if they are anti-maskers?

anti-maskers knpw the masks dont do anything against covid

FAUCI KNOWS the masks dont do anything, its to make others feel good

And the assh0le Fauci , knowing masks dont do anything, and saying so on tv in march 2020, in december 2020, says he wants a national mask mandate

that’s not science

They want someone else to be society's Guinea pigs. I can't say I blame them.

If I’m reading right, this vaccine microencasulates the active molecule in PolyEthylene Glycol, (PEG) which has never been tested at all for injection into humans. No one has any idea how many people will have an allergic reaction, but I’ve already seen three reports of people being hospitalized.

Yes, polyethylene glycol is the main ingredient in antifreeze, last time I looked.

You mean like the tens of thousands of closely monitored volunteers who participated in the Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 clinical trials over the course of several months?

We already had guinea pigs. They all survived. Some of them had a headache and muscle soreness for a little while.

I support everyone’s right to make their own decisions about what’s best for their individual health and wellbeing, but the contention that they’re being asked to be guinea pigs - as if these vaccines weren’t already thoroughly tested through the normal approval process - is absurd. They’ve been tested. They’ve been evaluated. They’re safe and effective. These are the Trump vaccines. The sooner people get inoculated the sooner the excuse for why we must shut down the economy vanishes.

PEG is simply part of the lipid shell. It’s already used in a range of pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food products. The only allergies ever observed with it were at extremely high concentrations. The amount in the Pfizer vaccine is just enough to help stabilize the lipid shell that coats the mRNA.

A very small number of people have had apparent allergic reaction. All of them are fine. It’s normal to have a small number of people with some sort of reaction as every individual’s biology is different. If we waited to find something that zero people ever had any reaction to, we would have zero medicines and zero vaccines. We would effectively be back to the stone age in terms of medical practice.

There won’t be an end to the lockdowns. You’re living in fantasyland if you think they’ll ease up restrictions.

The vaccine is no different than an annual flu vaccine. Millions of people choose not to get the flu vaccine. For something that is 99.97% survivable, I’ll take my chances thanks.

I’m waiting a few months to see what happens before I ever consider taking it too.

"The vaccine is no different than an annual flu vaccine."

Wrong. First, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been demonstrated to be 95% effective. Seasonal flu vaccine is 40-60% effective depending on the year. Second, Influenza virus has multiple strains in circulation at any given time and all of them rapidly mutate. SARS-CoV-2 has an exceedingly small number of prevalent versions, all of which display remarkably stable genomes and all of which are susceptible to the same antibodies.

Based on past experience with SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV, we can expect immunity to SARS-CoV-2 to last several years (minimum of 2-3 likely). Beyond that, seasonal flu vaccines are based on gen 1 (live attenuated) or gen 2 (recombinant) platforms. Pfizer and Moderna's vaccines are based on the gen 3 (mRNA) platform.

So in pretty much every significant way imaginable, these vaccines are absolutely nothing like the annual flu vaccine.

Would the antifreeze aspect have anything to do with this thing needing extreme cold storage shortly before use? Also, do you know which vax uses that stuff, since I’m not sure I want antifreeze injected into my body?

I’m still scratching my head over this Covid vaccine thing. Wait...don’t wait? I suppose I’ll just consult my Magic 8 Ball. It has gotten me out of many a pickle.

Anyway, your posts on this issue have been very informative. They are a good counter-balance to the negative information out there. Thanks for posting.

I don't plan on getting the corona virus vaccine.

At least not until I can see a history of side effects and contraindications.

I don't want to be some test bunny for something whipped up that quickly until I can see if it works without causing other problems.

Besides, the survivability of this covid is 99.8%. Sounds like the odds are better if one just doesn't take the vaccine and takes their chances with the illness itself.

I'm just sayin'.....
