Senate GOP to Trump: The election is over
The Hill ^ | Dec 16 2020 | JORDAIN CARNEY

Posted on 12/16/2020 9:13:59 PM PST by rintintin

Senate Republicans are sending a clear message to President Trump: The election is over and Joe Biden won.

While Trump is digging in and showing little sign of ending his public campaign despite a long losing streak in the courts, GOP senators - from leadership on down - are signaling they view the election result as settled and want to move on without a messy weeks-long fight.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) publicly congratulated Biden during a Senate floor speech, in his first public acknowledgement of the former vice president's victory.

He subsequently urged Senate Republicans during a caucus call, which was quickly leaked to the media, not to object to the election results on Jan. 6, as Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) has said he's looking for a GOP senator to join him on his plan to contest the Electoral College count.

McConnell's remarks in the call reflected two truths: that he and other GOP Senate leaders want an end to the fight, and that they are worried that House Republicans are ready to keep it going. If a single GOP senator joins Brooks, it would ensure a vote by both chambers of Congress that would divide Republicans and publicly force them to vote against Trump, which the Senate's top Republicans seem keen to avoid.

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), an adviser to McConnell, said it was the "explicit feeling" of Senate GOP leadership that it was time to accept the results of the Electoral College, which formally certified Biden's win on Monday, and move on.

Trump had to overcome an awful lot.

His advisers wanted Deep Swamp in place to counter and undermine his moves.

Trump attempted something that hasn’t been done in our lifetimes.

“it would ensure a vote by both chambers of Congress that would divide Republicans and publicly force them to vote against Trump, which the Senate’s top Republicans seem keen to avoid”

Beautiful. They either have to vote for Trump, or publicly vote against him, and Pence would have to accept the fraud delegations over the GOP legislative delegates.

If the GOP is forced to bury Trump in public, it might be enough kill the GOP we have suffered under for since 1988.

I can believe in the veracity of the story.

But events are still in motion. If some of the court cases break open and #TheSteal becomes undeniable, how can the Senate GOP vote against the President? It would be political hara-kiri.

No doubt some surrender-first GOP Senators are sending some sort of message but this is THE HILL and they will always find a way to twist the background to suit the Swamp.

So far, Johnson, Paul, Tuberville, Loeffler are moving towards objection of Electors with more expected to join.

“He’s a trump hating troll”

He sure is. I’m BEYOND tired of his constant sniping at President Trump.

I’d like to see his ass banned. These boards would be far, far better off without the likes of him!

Give me a break... you have been here two and a half years... I have never even heard of you before. You are a troll trying to stir up hate, doubt and discontent at a time when we need to keep the faith. Blaming Trump for what others have done is disgusting and the height of hypocracy. Go away troll.

“ I’d like to see his ass banned.”

You sound like a censor at Twitter or YouTube.

So I criticize Trump - I criticize him for appointing and supporting nevertrumpers. Like Wray. That has done his presidency in. And that’s a fact.

I was a Cruz person until the Colorado primary, then I was Trump all the way. Cruz did some funny stuff there.

It’s a daily drum beat.

It wasn’t there 20 years ago demanding that Al Gore Junior stop. The media carried the mantra “selected not elected”.

Upwards of 70 Democrats boycotted Trump’s innauguration.

Complete disrespect and dishonor.

And not a word of criticism from the Shill.

I don't think these career politicians, living in the beltway, have any idea how mad we are out here. We finally had a president who did what he said he would do. The amount of fraud, criminal activity and treason committed these past years is not tolerable, from Hillary walking, Fast and Furious, weaponization of the IRS, FBI, CIA, etc., natural born citizen issues, to name a few. If President Trump declares martial law and does what General McInerney suggested, with enforcing the EO from 2018 about foreign election interference, tribunals etc. he will have over 74 million patriots behind him. I believe there are a lot less Democrats in America than the “polls” and voting rolls suggest, as I suspect election fraud has been rampant for years.

Well put. I think Trump was using the business model where if somebody has a run in, leaves or is fired they take their loyal people with them. Not so in government. The loyalty stays intact. Trump tried to win these people over, like the FBI, but that did nothing because these people didn’t leave. Even when he fired Comey the the pro Democrat sympathies stayed intact.

A lot of ingrates and backstabbers in the Senate. If one Senator is needed for Moe’s plan why aren’t all the Senators screaming “pick me, pick me, pick me!?” Why isn’t there a line up around the Senate building? They are just assholes and if Trumps starts a new party, the MAGA PARTY, these Republicans will lose 75 million voters who voted for Trump. Same as FOX NEWS losing its viewership. They have no loyalties to Trump or the American people. So, F’em.

The story is propaganda in cooperation with select gutless senators, in order to push Trump to concede so they do not have to confront the truth. They have, once again, miscaculated as Trump will not comply. They will be finished, one way or the other.

I suggest to you that Trump didn’t let us down. Rather, he led an unimaginable fight against every force that be in America. We let him down.
