A Cole County man was one of five people in the state selected for Missouri's first elk season in modern history.
The five randomly selected hunters from all corners of the state were given the opportunity to hunt elk beginning this October. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) randomly selected the few lucky winners from a pool of 19,215 permit applications including 33 for one resident-landowner antlered-elk permit and 19,182 for four general permits.

Elk meat is yum yum
I’ve never had it. Similar to deer, or?
It’s better than deer in my opinion.
Mule deer are pretty good, but a young bull elk taken care of properly is great.
Some decent Elk. Love the meat as well, eat up!
I once was an avid hunter and trapper but realized hunting with a camera is the way to go! Game lives another day and still have a forever memory of the hunt.
Knowing what I know now, if I were that elk, I would have turned tail and headed back home to where they found me....../
